How does Evander Holyfield do against Liston´s opponents

:deal This, kind off - he could be inconsistent in his performances which made you have those doubts back in the day - there were always question marks against him back in the day but at the end of the day he never actually lost until Bowe - but yeah he'd need to be careful with Cleve Williams - think he'd beat Folley, Machen would be tricky and would throw his rythym off - difficult to say with Patterson as it's a totally different scenario - he was scared to death of Liston and just folded meekly and a but embarrassingly - he wouldn't do that in there with Holy a Patterson-Holy fight would be a very tasty affiar I reckon - Ali without any shadow of a doubt walks off with a unanimous decision (any has fun doing it aswell) possibly even shocks Holy with a late stoppage just for being a Christian uncle tom haha

 

I believe that Holyfield had "assistance" in the 90's. That crap wasn't available in the 60's.

 

Evander's schedule was tougher than Liston's anyway, and he lost due to an off night in his prime only once. He'd struggle a bit more with the likes of Patterson and Williams because he doesn't have near Liston's power, but he'd beat them all the same. He'd be much, much more competitive with Ali.

SuzieQ49 has a point. Yes, coming in Liston's time, Sonny and Evander would have been the outstanding boxers. Would Evander have matched Sonny's succes, '58-'63? Might depend on Holyfield's health, whether he meets legit contenders when he (Holyfield) isn't firing on all cylinders -- that's the 'Moore/Bowe III' factor. The 'Bowe I' is: if Holyfield takes the wrong approach in a fight, is the other guy going to be fighter enough to seize the day? If the 'other guy' is Liston, probably; if it's someone else, maybe not. When Clay/Ali comes along, Holyfield probably acquits himself better than Liston, on the whole.
What it really likely comes down to is Holyfield-Liston HTH. Holyfield might drop a fight Sonny would have won, but probably not without extenuating circumstances. If Holyfield beats Liston and does better than Liston against Ali and is less than 100% in loosing to a guy Sonny beat, history will probably give him a slight nod over Sonny; vice versa if Sonny beats Evander.
