I think VK has a good shot in beating Clay and Ali a year later.

VK has the size and tools to give Ali problems.
I still favor Ali, but if VK comes out the winner, I wont be too shock about it.

I think he crushs every one else.

Are we talking about the guy who was wobbled by Sanders?

Everyone gets wobbled in this division. Sanders hit hard and quickly and from unconventional angles.

Vitali would do very well, he would lose handily against Ali though.

apples and oranges, prime Vitali was wobbled by Corrie Sanders and Lennox Lewis, but prime Ali was wobbled by Doug Jones, George Chuvalo and Henry Cooper.

I like Vitali too, but #7 is being a tad generous.

Vitali on an ATG list and on a honest H2H standing are two completely different entities.

    He's a PROBLEM.

He runs through the entire lot sans Ali, which would still be a stiff test.

I think Ali beats him, and I'll tell you why. A ton of Vitali's effectiveness is derived from his effective control of range: His feet are fast, and he seems to have the length of his arms committed to muscle memory. When he doesn't have a measure of the distance, he gets into spots of trouble because he relaxes and makes mistakes. He thought he was closer to Lewis then he was, and ate an uppercut. He pursued Sanders directly to the ropes without establishing length first, and walked right into a straight left hand he had no idea was coming and shouldn't have been hit with.

Ali was the best heavyweight of all time at taking an opponent out of their comfort zone, and making them do things they weren't comfortable with. That footwork and the speed would be killer in this matchup. His feet were faster than Vitali's, as were his hands, and he had wonderful, underrated counters to the jab. I think Vitali would have a hard time keeping Ali where he wanted him, lose the battle of the jabs, and get outlanded en route to a close but clear decision loss.

I give Floyd a good chance, too, because he could close distance quick and was very good at coming in at an angle. I could envision him getting in on Vitali's stick, and landing hurtful blows while he readjusted. Gun to my head, though, I can't see Floyd surviving if Vitali ever actually got him on the end of a sequences of right hands.

Agree with your analysis of Ali vs Klitschko.... I just can't envision Patterson beating him though.. The height, weight and reach factors would be unbearable.. Vitali's chin was also pretty sturdy and I don't think Floyd could land with any regularity to force a stoppage or even a decision for that matter.. Patterson was also prone to getting decked quite often as well as even KO'd from time to time, and Vitali would be among one of the hardest hitters he faced asside from Liston.. If this were an issue of who was better p4p, then it would be Floyd all the way... But being superior in a p4p sense means little when two guys are in the ring together.
