We will all see during his next few outings how he does, and how he looks. Regarding his weight, we could all name several American boxers who moved up through the weights and always looked ripped, then looked bigger than the resident fighter at that weight . Eg Floyd coming from 130 and dwarfing Hatton, Hatton we say could never make 130, yet we agree Floyd wa the bigger man when they fought. Hopkins could have made 154 he said for the right fights. Mosley always looked a good sized welter. Arnie knows more about Gavin than us . I just think we could learn plenty from the yanks about weight in boxing.

Good post! I think over there trainers are ALOT more equipped with everything such as a guy like Ariza is in most top American Gyms! Look at the size of Ortiz in comparison to Gavin!! If Gavin was at 147... i shudda to think the kind of punishment he'd get! at 140... Look at the Bradley, Khan, Judah, Holt, Maidana, Matthysse, Rios & Guerrero ( WHEN THEY COME UP) they look like athletes because they have the right things and people around! Gavin needs to move away like Khan!

He's only missed the weight once, which was a catchweight.

Anyone would think we're talking about Guzman mk. 2.

You’ve been a constant niggle about Gavin, including classics like “I’ve a better physique than he does, and I only go to the gym a few times a week.”

And now “we’ve heard it all before”. He went and got a dietician and conditioning coach. When did we hear that before?

You get these weird obsessions, Rob – let this one go.

    Didn't DeGale win one anyway?

Gavin was too big for that weightclass. It wasn’t a lack of discipline, he was just too big. He should’ve been the weight above but because of how selection is done, he couldn’t just take someone else’s place.

    That's bollocks.

He'd outgrown the weight and had been fighting in a weight class half a stone heavier for over a year.

It wasn't as if he didn't try either, but if you can't shift weight in unbearable humidity it's time to move up.

The only criticism I have of him in this respect is actually trying to make it, but maybe he was told that it was that weight or no weight at all.

Tell me you wouldn't do the same thing......

we have heard it before. Kerry Kayes said in an interview a few weeks ago "I must have sat down and spoken to Arnie and Frankie 16 times in the last two years. i can only give Frankie advice".

so again why is it different this time. until we see a change in the ring i will take anything thats said regarding diet with a pinch of salt.

On the issue of Frankie and his weight, he did work with Kerry Kayes before the Olympics. I'm pretty sure he didn't put him on a KFC and beans on toast diet so he cannot plead total ignorance.

Rob who gives a **** what stories there were regarding it?

    These are FACTS we're talking.......

Frankie won the World Amateurs at Lightweight in November 2007. Pretty soon after he started fighting at LightWelter. 7 Months after the Worlds he won Gold at the EU Championships whilst still at Light Welter (having not been down to Lightweight since the Worlds).

He was then forced to enter the Olympics at lightweight, despite most knowing he'd seriously struggle to make the weight. He asked for a box off with Bradley Saunders at light welter but his request was refused, so that they could have a boxer at Lightweight and one at Lightwelter, instead off having one at LightWelter and dropping the squad to 7.

Say what you want about his weight at the moment, but dont be so stupid to keep bringing up the Olympics. Those are facts, forget the stories you've heard, the facts are there!!!!!
