Top 10 maybe. Sonnen could take him down, Belfort would be too fast and powerful, Silva is more well rounded, Maia would be dangerous on the ground, Marquardt is too well rounded etc Cung can kick but his hands need some serious improvement as does his wrestling and bjj. He hasn't fought a very high calibre of fighter yet and had some tough bouts.
I was hoping Frank was going to beat him.... but I was pretty ingorant at the time I suppose, hadnt been keeping up with Frank, was hoping the vet would have enough left in the tank to get the W.
Cung is a total package, good base, excellent varied striking (not alot of power but precise) Problem is hes up there agewise so dont count on him fighting for a long time.
Cung Le has the ability to beat anyone in his weight class. His loss to Scott Smith was the best thing that could have happened to him because he has learned to adapt his pacing to MMA. Instead of trying to continually score points as he would have in san shou - he is now more careful with his shots - looking to land hard when the opportunities are presented. His kicking ability makes him a danger to anyone.
i think hes one of these guys that can look great if you dont fight back.. what i mean is he looks good when hes dishing out the punishment but less than stellar taking it.
Very good but its hard to rank him very highly when his best wins are Frank Shamrock and Scott Smith.
The statements so far are accurate - he can obviously hang at the top level but doesn't really have much time to establish much of a legacy. He'd have to pull out a very improbable hopscotch from one promotion to the next to clean out all the champs before his sell-by date. So basically in the next year or two he'd have to move between Bellator, Strikeforce, UFC and the Japanese market to beat Lombard, Silva, Jacare, and Santiago. Otherwise, no matter how obvious his talent, he's doomed to remain just a flash in the pan late starter who picked up a couple of nice wins sandwiched around a somewhat embarrassing loss. If he somehow followed the above path, especially at his age, he would have to be considered eligible to go down as an all-time middleweight in the sport.
Not well. He's a midget at 185. Nate or Chael would properly manhandle him. Anderson is way too tall and good for him to strike with. If he was 10 years younger and fighting at 170 - where he'd still be small - he'd be one of the most exciting, and best, fighters in the sport. But he isn't and he doesn't.
