Andries turned pro in 1978, Calzaghe was not even born until 1972 , nought for effort.

Sour Kraut, a past prime Joe Calzaghe beat a near prime Bernard Hopkins in his own country, Hopkins was coming off wins over Tarver and Wright and then after Hopkins lost to Calzaghe, Hopkins has gone on an unbeaten run beating Pavlik, Ornelas, Jones and drawing away to Pascal.
Even Roy Jones was on a winning run of 3 fights when he fought Calzaghe the last being a victory over Felix Trinidad and then Jones Jnr won the next two after losing to Calzaghe against Sheika and Lacy.

Just because Calzaghe beat unbeaten German Mario Veit {30 wins out of 30 fights} by TKO in the first round after knocking him down twice you are upset with Joe, things were made worse when Veit won his next 15 fights and became a manditory for Calzaghe who went to Germany and beat Veit on his own patch by TKO in the 6th, at least Veit did beat Salem, Brewer {yet another American and by TKO} and Braehmer who currently holds the WBO light heavyweight World title, so stop being so sour.

Veit was in his prime when he fought Joe, Calzaghe was just too good for him.

Steve Collins spent half is career chasing Roy Jones Jnr for a unification fight but Roy Jones did not want to know, not until Collins had been retired for two years anyway.
Collins had beaten Eubank and Benn both twice.
Hopkins had agreed to fight Calzaghe in 2002 and then 24 hours later Hopkins demanded double the money to fight Calzaghe.
Its hard to take Hopkins and Jones seriously sometimes, both Hopkins and Jones only wanted to fight Calzaghe when they had everything to gain but did not want to know when they had everything to lose, thats why the fights happened towards the end of their careers.

Calzaghe didn't want any part of a prime Jones, just ask him.

Veit was in his prime but Veit was a bum too. Still, my point stands. Calzaghe fought only bums and old men. :deal

And still Calzaghe is a mere footnote while those two will be remembered as legends. :hi:
