That is the problem with today, people have too much information, and thus everyone thinks they are an expert because they looked up a fighter on boxrec... Information is brilliant, when used properly... According to purely information gathered on boxrec; Trevor Berbick is better than Muhammad Ali...
Looking back at 1991, the great thing we have today is hindsight. We now know that was the best era since the 1960s and 1970s:good
Of course it is stronger, but only considerably stronger with hindsight, at the time it was considered far from perfect... In 20 years time probably all the top 10 Heavyweights of this era would have had their career defined thus would be thought of probably at their peak, even if their peak is not now. Lennox Lewis was OK in 1991, but it could argued he did not peak for another eight years. Indeed looking at all of them fighters, I would say only Ruddock and argubly Mercer were at their peaks at the time..
Are we going to remember David Haye in 10 years for his boxing at heavyweight? Ruslan Chagaev? Alexander Povetkin? Tomas Adamek? no.
Very! Loved watching him fight. Perspirated plates of muscle and those robotic, martial arts-like movements. Efficient, accurate. Great at eluding by pulling out with his high hips. So different.
Of course we are! For goodness sake if I have fond memories of Hughroy bloody Currie, then the likes of Chagaev, Povetkin and Adamek, are going to be no problem. I remember the original Commie Heavyweight invasion. All three are far better than Vaulin and Zolkin...
Are we bollocks. Your average Joe Public hadn't even heard of Wladimir Klitschko until Haye agreed to fight him.
Average Joe has heard of Klitschko, they are probably a little confused and think that Amir, Mayweather or Pacquiao should now fight them, but they do know the Klitschko's exist.
