Michalczewsk beat whoever was willing to fight in or near his homeland- as RJJ claimed he would never go overseas fearing he would get robbed like the Olympics. Is that a legit concern? I dunno. There are about six names that RJJ fought, so, too did DM. Proof that it wasn't just D.M. Roy didn't want to fight was in 1998 when the WBC declared Jone's LHW title vacant so Rocchigiani fought Michael Nunn for it. Problem? When Jones vacated the HW belt the WBC said he didn't have to fight to get the belt back. Rocchigiani sued..and WON Point being, Roy could've fought Rocchigiani or Michalczewski or even Nunn, but he didn't. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/was-roy-jones-a-paper-champion.290280/page-11 The link above shows he was rated under Roy, so how could it not have happened? Roy pissed a lot of his fans off, because we felt he was too fast, powerful ..ahem!!...what's to be afraid of?
DM was past his prime at the point. It doesn't matter he if was getting hit, he came back to knock the other guy out. In his prime, he was a great fighter.
Above average fighters don't become lineal champions or hold the record for title defenses at Light Heavyweight.
Yes they do, especially when they are fighting all bums, cabbies, schnitzel chef's, and Jones Jr. left overs. That is literally what is on Zewski's resume. Nothing great there.
Michczewski's every punch was hard, he would have knocked Roid Jones out! HBO could not get Roid to fight Michalczewski, Roid was even asked on TV. When I saw Michalczwski fight, I understood why. USTV did not want America to see him fight, but they also boycotted a lot of Klitschko fights, along with so many others and even today they are boycotting Usyk Vs. Gassiev fight WBSS, but USTV will show you a bad sparring match with the house fighter fighting a wino! USTV will also boycott Povetkin Vs. Price...................
Yes, I agree..................we can't be certain who would have won, but Roid would have been taking a big chance fighting Michalczewski. Jones did not want that fight.....................I can remember when Jones was asked about fighting Michalczewski on HBO over and over and over. Would have been his most difficult opponent for sure............plus, Roid's chin was not very good as we found out later on, so that made Michalczewski even more dangerous....................that is one fight I wish I could have seen................
DM was one of the Greatest World Champions at 175. No doubt about it. He beat Virgil Hill to unify the Lt. H.W. World Champion Belts and successfully defended his world titles many times.
Interesting how Virgil Hill was a bum or a Jones Jr. left over when Michalchewski beat him before Roy did.
Fantasy Jones was so fast he could alter existing timelines. He chased chickens at such a pace that he ripped a fabric in time and got to Hill first. Thats why it meant something for Roy and nothing for DM
Unfortunately, US fighters were getting robbed in Germany, German fighters were getting robbed in the US, and neither was a big enough draw to make the same cash in a neutral setting. It sucks for sure, but I get why the stalemate happened.
