Foster was supposed to be one of the five opponents in George Foreman's famous exhibition in Toronto in 1975. Might have made the spectacle less embarrassing if he hadn't pulled out - he was, at least, Foreman's physical equal and hit hard enough to be some sort of a threat.

Cooney was not good. But you're right in saying Foster was probably not even as good.

Foreman's opponents for that evening were all journeymen. I'm glad the light heavyweight champion didn't participate.

He is the embodiment of the idea, that power on its own, will only get you so far.

Whoever said he was stiff was right on the $. That was my first impression. Quarry brutally knocked him out. That has got to be tough for a slugger especially. After destroying all his opponents he gets the tables turned on him. Mentally it would probably destroy the confidence of most ordinary men.

Boone Kirkman was a top contender at one stage of his career.

He wasn't a top contender .. he was a guy creating a buzz , well managed, and maybe a fringe contender who came up short against all top competition he fought ..

Right he was rated as high as 6 in the world. Which means he was a top contender.. Also he beat Doug Jones much easier than Ali did. Most people think Ali lost to Doug Jones.

Seriously ? He split fights with a shopworn Jones who was four years older than the version Ali defeated .. one alphabet ranked him 6th, maybe .. that is not a top contender , that is a ranked contender .. know facts before doubling down ..

Shame they couldn't have gotten Mac a fight with Joe Frazier in 1972, possibly could have given Frazier an issue for a spell. He did look stiff, but powerful against Quarry though.

Cooney was the Hunter Biden of the heavyweight division. Cooney had no chin and he had no heart. Like Hunter he covered the the canvas with shame.
