Yeah I dont really get how he didnt test himself. I mean really the fighters that he supposedly ducked, were they going to offer that much bigger of challenges? DM, GR, no way! Hopkins would have been schooled. I dont think Hopkins could have beaten a good number of fighters that Roy beat at LH.
I think moving up in weight to LH and heavyweight is as big of a test as fighting a guy he already beat at a lower weight. I mean look at the trouble Jermain taylor gave Hopkins with movement at middleweight?? Jones was bigger stronger and a lot better.

Jones just didnt fight the opponents the media said he should fight, and I dont think beating Hopkins again, DM and GR would have done a lot more for his legacy. He should have just retired after defeating Ruiz or maybe fought Byrd in a unification match and gotten out.

Rochiagani turned the RJJ fight down, instead seeking compensation from the WBC. DM didn't have the style to beat him, Hopkins didnt have a hope in hell and thats why he ducked the rematch even in 2008, Benn had an outside punchers chance

However 1 man I'd disagree on testing RJJ and thats McClellan, that was the most dangerous match up out there for him, he didn't duck him though, they were building that fight up

Ali NEVER went to the body, he was great at what he did, but Roy had more variety. Guess it all depends on what you like. Skill basically means level of ability and both guys had a different approch but were very effective. Id say they are pretty much to par.

H2H the man is a beast. Obviously when you factor things in like resume, roy's aint gonna stack up to his ability, but what ability that was. Like someone else said, roy had gifts we may never see in another fighter and that alone is saying alot.

Rocchigiani did not turn down a fight with Jones. The fight was a done deal, Rocchigiani was already in training camp in Germany. There was a press conference during that time in New York, Rocchigiani didn´t go there personally but only called in per phone because he didn´t want to f*ck up his camp. Jones and HBO used this as an excuse to cancel the fight, saying if Rocchigiani doesn´t show up for the conference he probably won´t show up for the fight. Then Rocchigiani went after the WBC .... and won.

I never said something different. Critizising Jones seems to be a sacrilege for some though and if you do so you are labeled a hater.

Very impressive ... when you ignore that Hopkins was a green contender, Toney was as weight-drained as a human beeing can be, Hill just came of a loss to DM and a 10-month lay-off, McCallum was as old as methusalah, Ruiz was handpicked and one of the worst hw beltholders ever and he also lost two out of three against Tarver, one by KO.
Those are still all good wins but much less impressive when you look deeper into them than they are on first glance. Boxrec warriors probably are impressed. I´m not that much.

    1. Your either lying or just wrong, the articles state Rocchigiani pulled out of the fight

    2. You have your time lines off, this all happened in 2000, Roch fought for the wrongly stripped WBC title in 1998. Roch turned down a Joens fight to get a Darius rematch figuring it was the more winable of the 2 and the Jones fight would be there if he won

    3. Your a hypocrite for bitching about Darius being stripped and then claiming it was justice for Jones to be stripped. But such is your bias to German based fighters

I've put up evidence in responce to you in the past proving Roch turned the fight down aswell as the conference:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2000/01/17/sports/boxing-jones-prevails-over-injury-and-telesco.html

This bout represents both a change of site and a change of opponent for Jones (40-1), who will turn 31 the day after the bout. Jones was originally supposed to fight Graciano Rocchigiani of Germany at the Garden. But the Knicks were playing at the Garden on Jan. 15, and Rocchigiani could not commit to the schedule of the news conference in New York and to the date of the fight. So, the fight was shifted to Radio City, which is owned by Cablevision, the parent company of Madison Square Garden, and Rocchigiani was replaced by Telesco (23-2).

Your level of bias against Jones makes you worthy of contempt. Hopkins was 28 just as experienced as Jones, wouldn't lose for another 12years and arguably has never lost since. You moan about Toney being weight drained and not Lamotta for Robinson.

Interestingly you completely ignore the primeness of Monzon's opposition as hes 1 of your favorites. Benvenuti had lost 2-3 times in recent before Monzon got to him, Griffith was 33, small and past it, Napoles was 34 and past prime and best weight

Hopkins and Toney were far nearer prime than any of Monzon's top opponents

Hopkins needed a poo and Toney poo'ed too much, rendering these victories meaningless, i agree.

And the following backs up what I said:

    http://www.nytimes.com/1999/09/30/s...st-holyfield.html?scp=1&sq=Rocchigiani&st=nyt

    PUNCH LINES
It appears that the Nov. 6 bout between ROY JONES Jr., the undisputed light-heavyweight champion, and GRACIANO ROCCHIGIANI is off. Rocchigiani was supposed to be training in the Poconos with EMANUEL STEWARD. Steward said he hasn't seen him. HBO will fill the Nov. 6 date with a bout between FLOYD MAYWEATHER, the W.B.C. junior-lightweight champion, and DERRICK GAINER. The Jones-Rocchigiani bout could come off in January.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2000/01/15/s...eals-nothing.html?scp=9&sq=Rocchigiani&st=nyt

Jones vowed then that he would never fight Telesco, because he was being disrespectful. But Telesco's number came up after Graciano Rocchigiani of Germany backed out of a fight against Jones.

From what can be gathered the first link doesn't say anything about any offer to Rochiaggiani being retracted

    Translater

"Rocky" demands should begin Roy Jones in the USA Halbschwergewichtler Graziano Rocchigiani in September to the Megakampf against the American Roy Jones.
Hamburg - box world champion "tiger" Dariusz Michalczewski must wait yet more long for the German Mega battle against Graziano Rocchigiani. The Berliner should begin in September against the American superstar Roy Jones. The stock exchange offers for the title battle in the half heavy-weight of the world association world Boxing Council were submitted now. After that the Fight in the USA takes place. Jones lawyer Stane Levin received the extra charge with 5.1 million dollars. The Promoter of the American, Murad Mohammed, had offered 3.51 million, that Berliner was group German Entertainment of the concert organizer Peter Schwenkow about 3.5 million. Therewith is clear that the Fight cannot take place in Germany.
Klaus Peter cabbage, the manager of Michalczewski, assumes that the most expensive offer is retracted. "Graziano will earn so under two million marks. In a battle against Dariusz, it would have collected more", said the Hamburger. It is not to be excluded therefore that the Fight yet bursts because of the unfavorable conditions for the Berliner. "Should Rocky against Jones lose, is it for us anyway no longer interesting", said cabbage.
