It was his last fight. Lejarraga in Spain. I posted about it. You're dead right about his weight though.

Superb amateur, he was an absolute class act whilst wearing the vest.

Never came near to replicating that as a pro which is a shame given the hype he had behind him when he initially turned over.

From the outside looking in, it seemed he never properly lived the life.... remember hearing that he'd be eating beans on toast in camp etc. Either way he was never a Welterweight.

I may be biased here as I've spent time chatting with the kid and had pics with his belts.

As a person he's a lovely bloke always got time for people, never refuses a pic or a signature.

He had the ability in my opinion to be fringe world level at 140, fighting at 147 was an easy weight to make for him with decent money to be made at the weight. Had he lived the life, campaigned at 140 made the right decisions I think we would have seen a lower level version of Paulie Malignaggi a great mover, technically superb but lacking that pop.

He had family issues away from the game, and was hanging about with the Zulu hooligans from Birmingham City and I think he just lost his way.

A perfect case of what might have been, but I'm proud of what he did as a Brummie fight fan.

If you're reading this Frankie, I'm the Villa lad who asked you about wearing the justice for the 21 shorts when we were at Andy Millwalls fundraiser.

I remember being surprised he lost to Bundu, but perhaps I shouldn't have been. I also thought he lost to Skeete to be honest. As has been mentioned a ton on here, style never adapted to the pro ranks and it looked the longer his career went on the shorter his time bothering to prepare for fights became.

If he isn't retired he should go on a good diet to get a 6 pack at 135 and have 1 last go.

And stay away from drink and drugs for a while.

Same old story with Frankie. He was holding his own early on but didn't have the power to keep Lejarraga off him and got pasted in the end. Because he'd tried to lose too much weight in such a short time the body shots did for him.

He should have been higher than Euro level, that's for sure. His skill level is immense.

He could have walked into any gym in the world and they would have took him on based on his amateur accomplishments.

Frankie, had he been fully dedicated, could have done well on the world stage at 140 a few years back. Judah was still knocking around ffs!

There was rumours going around about a failed drug test at the Olympics, and even if that is true, the amateurs saw the best of him.
I think the pro game was just a cash-out for him. Imagine being that rated against all that talent and then you have to fight some nobody at a small venue, most would struggle to make that adjustment and "get up" for those fights. His style was better suited to it anyway.

I think the performances against Vassel and Lomax were quality. Outstanding, even. Eggington would have got the same treatment had he faced that Gavin.

Saw an interview the other day and he looked old and out of shape. Doesn't he work on the railway now?

Definitely the biggest "what if?" of the last decade in British Boxing.

Well said, I believe that to be the case. Frankie still had a good career. He fought some good operators and could hold his own.

With discipline to stay at 140, luck of the fighter he was facing at the time, say Khabib Allakhverdiev around 2013/2014 he might have been able to grab a belt.

Bad living, loss of drive and his a.ss handed to him by brook put the spark out

that’s brutal. Imagine being talented at the sport you love and getting paid tons and you can’t keep away from food, drugs, drink and women. Actually it sounds impossible.

but in all seriousness frankie Gavin is up there near the top In wasted talent. Reduced to 5-10k purses fighting doormen

another that blew it was Kevin mitchell. He was beating linares by 6 points on one card, 4 on the other 2 when he was stopped in round ten. Pints, Peruvian and weight cutting always catch you in the end
