How highly do you rate Pac's perfomance in Pac-Barrera I?

Indeed...I was responding to PP Junior Jones shout.

 

Stinky robbery. Barrera-Morales trilogy is the only one I can think of that had two robberies in a trilogy. Odd.

 

I think it was the best performance of the Decade followed by Hopkins-Trindad. IMO Barerra was the number 1 p4p at the time, and Pacquaio though understood to be a good fighter, was still realitively unknown.

I figured that Barerra would have that jab on him and start working the body to wear this Pacquiao guy down buuuut....what happened was, that Pacquaio came in a smashed Barerra and made him look classless. Barerra was looking for a way out of the ring, because from round three on, Pacquaio was admistering a first class beatdown to a hall of famer in his hall of fame stride.

Pacquaio hit the brakes on all of Barerra's glory and ended his career as a fighter that mattered, and others soon followed.

I was shocked!

 

If you thought the second fight was anything but close then I suggest you rewatch it.

 

Yeah. This is no knock on Barrera, whom I really rate and think probably should have been given the decision against Marquez.

 

Yeah, he ended Barrera's career, it's not like he'd go on to win another world title in a higher weight class, and achieve one of his career highs in beating Morales for a second time. Barrera was completely done and irrelevant after the 2003 beatdown.

Well I'd say his absolute prime was Morales 1, he was more well rounded by that stage, he wasn't 100% but he already had the mega win against Mkkinney

Ofcourse it was, firstly his physical prime was there. The time when he still had massive balls to go life and death was in the Morales 1 fight where he was also more well rounded than his left hook happy days. He never fought as well again as he did against Morales 1.

Secondly he had better size advantages at 122, where he was big for the weight, 126-130 he was small at the weight and he actually ate his way upto 126 to face Hamed, I remember he talked about bulking up before the fiht and he still fought the weight he weighed in at

 

I thought Morales clearly won it in a close fight. I can't see how people can give that to Barrera but I don't mind much because he got robbed in the first fight. Two robberies.....

 

Morales 1 was at 122, MAB didn't look as good in Morales 2 at 126lbs

 

Thought MAB edged it but can see it being scored to Morales. The first fight was a disgrace of a robbery

 

We've discussed this many times before, I don't personally see how going round and round could serve a purpose? How about you? I think MAB had more to his offensive arsenal by the time he was making waves in the 126lbs division, and it's no coincidence that some of his career best performances came when he was a Featherweight. Horses for courses.

 

Morales gameplan had completely changed, he wasn't there to be hit like he was in the first fight. It's non-comparable.

 

For god's sake! Not this irrelevant game again. We're not talking about a one fight absolute prime/peak, if we were all these discussions would be irrelevant more or less. The fight took place around the best years in Barrera's career and he was very highly ranked p4p going in (top 3, probably). He was in his prime.

 

It could have gone either way and I have no problem with either man taking the victory. As much as I hate draws that fight could've been one too. Razor close.

He beat Morales in the final fight of the trilogy in a great fight and lost a razor close decision to Marquez in a fight that could've gone either way. Somewhere between then he had a rematch with Pacquiao and showed a better account of himself despite losing by a wide margin.
