Roger's chin was downright despicable. One of the worst I would have to say, up there with Kirkland & Khan't.
Pops had a good chin. Jeff had a decent one until he met ODLH... Roger had no chin but had the best offense in the family. And Money has a cast iron chin... Go figure... LOL....
You can get away with having a fragile glass mandible and be the top fighter in your division, as long as you have masterful defense Rigo is proof of that
In my opinion, this is boxing, not brawling, it is exactly that ('boxing') that matters. Yes chin is a factor but if you have a solid chin but don't know **** about boxing (i.e. being a flat footed brawler) how are you gonna win a fight? Puncher's chance? Doesn't always work. Also if you're susceptible to knockdowns literally in every fight then you shouldn't be in boxing in the first place. Solid chins don't matter that much when your defence is good enough to protect it and you can outbox the crap out of your opponents. Look at Wlad, Gamboa, Pac or Khan for example. Their boxing abilities are superior to their 'chins' as you call it, sure they've been t/ko'd before but they out skill and outbox boxers/brawlers most of the time. Another ex: Floyd's opponents have almost all been solid chinned but they just didn't know how to outbox anyone to save their own lives. Not hating on Floydy, he's tremendously skilled and I rate him up there but I'm talking about his flat footed opponents.so don't jump on me after taking things out of context here. Basically, if his opponents had amazing boxing skills and movement as Wlad, Gamboa, Khan or Pac, then maybe just maybe they could have beaten a great boxer at his own game.
Boxing skills and talent are more important than chin. If the chin was the most important thing guys like Tex Cobb and Chuvalo would be in ATGs.
it's important but you can make up for the lack of one. look at thomas hearns' achievements with a weak chin.
