It's been a pleasure. And I may take a break before responding to the 2nd half of your first response, but I do want to respond to that as well.
Pound for Pound lists are subjective and come down to the person making them so reasons will vary. I have Usyk at number one currently though the top 5/6/7 are very close and able to jump one another with a big win. Personally, I have him over Canelo for several reasons. Firstly, I had Canelo losing both fights to GGG, first fight he was beaten with Golovkin as the aggressor and second fight I had Golovkin out countering him. He still sits highly though as he was competitive and showed he is an elite fighter even in losses on my cards. Secondly I have Usyk achieving more in less time. Fully unified cruiser, the best cruiser of all time and a resume consisting of Bellew, Gassiev, Breidis, Huck, Mchunu, Hunter, Glowacki is impressive for a guy with 16 fights. More so when three of those where ranked 2/3 in the division at the time he beat them. He's also cleaned out his division whereas Canelo never has, Canelo has been the A Side and had everything his own way for the most part, he stipulates his own weight divisions, has been caught using PEDs, is the home fighter in all his fights. Usyk on the other hand has never fought at home as a world title even as the defending champion, he fought Bellew in the UK, Glowacki in Poland, Breidis in Latvia, Gassiev in Russia, Hunter in the USA, Huck in Germany.
No Mexican Meat, hasn’t been outboxed by anyone (Hey Erislandy Lara) or beat twice by his biggest rival Usyk 16-0 Undisputed Champ Canelo 48-4-1 Undisputed Cheat
getting ahead of the game here, Canelo has done 2 divisions with a huge resume (well 3 really, although he wasnt top notch at welter). Give 2Slyk time, hes still a novice in the pro ranks. If you ask, had Usk done more over 14 fights, then of course hes ahead by far.
Respectfully most of what you're saying really doesn't have much to do with what determines who is a better P4P fighter. While that's true though that Usyk has fought so often on his opponents home turf, which is to be commended, I think a lot of people are forgetting that Canelo hasn't fought in his home country since 2011, which was two years before Usyk became a pro. So Canelo fighting in America isn't exactly fighting on his home turf, even though many fans try to act like it is. And he had to earn it the hard way by fighting Floyd Mayweather in Floyd's backyards with Floyd getting all the advantages. Even by the time he fought Cotto, he still had to put up with Cotto's demands, Cotto's catchweight etc. It wasn't really until he beat Cotto that he truly became the so-called A side. And even then despite popular belief, he never really stipulated his own weight divisions or demanded catchweights. But that's neither here nor there as it relates to his ability as a fighter or his P4P ranking. P4P also has nothing really to do with if you clean out a division. I could use a similar argument about Canelo being a world title holder in several weight divisions which Canelo already has done and has a chance to do in yet another division next month. But really while both are great accomplishments it doesn't really have anything to do with how good you are P4P. And while the PED situation could very well have been due to contaminated meat, even that really has no bearing on his P4P ranking as Canelo has been enrolled in random VADA testing over a long period of time, and again it's about how good you are as an in-ring competitor. But you're right, P4P lists are subjective, and I'm just trying to bring P4P back to what it should be about : how good you are as a fighter, and specifically your performances in the ring. Too often I see P4P be based on either who you are a fan of or about facts unrelated to how good you are as a fighter. I'm looking for reasons as to why Usyk is a better in ring performer than Canelo. Like what specifically he does inside the squared circle that's better than Canelo. What holes do you see in Canelo's style. What areas does Usyk and Canelo for that matter need to improve on. That's what I base P4P lists on, not anything other than who you are as a fighter right now.
He didn't need the assistance of judges to beat Briedis? 114-114, 115-113, and 115-113 is decisive to you?
Isn't P4P supposed to be about how good you are right now rather than what you've done? If it was about who's accomplished more, then fighters who are retired would still be part of the conversation.
I didn't say Usyk won all of his fights decisively. He did give his Latvian opponent the hometown advantage by fighting him in the Riga arena and still came out victorious.
I commend Usyk for fighting Briedis in his home country, but what does that have to do with how good Usyk is P4P?
tru, and canelo has conquered 2 divisions. . 2Slyk has conquered one, and its not a big one, its a subdivision. His level isnt so set in stone yet.
As far as boxing technique Usyk is better Canelo has the best single win but it is more controversial than anything Usyk has done Usyk became undisputed and cleaned out his weight class You basically have to rate Canelo's lone win over Golovkin above all else. So one moment would have to trump everything in your eyes to rate Canelo higher.
What about Usyk's technique is better? I look at Usyk's lack of head movement, lack of upper body movement, then I look at Canelo's counter punching ability, Canelo's punch variety, which is indicative of superior technique.
It's impossible to determine which fighter has superior abilities when they are separated by three weight divisions. When comparing attributes such as speed, power etc, the 40 or so pounds difference in weight makes it challenging for obvious reasons. I admire the confidence that Usyk has shown in taking fights in his opponents backyards. His accomplishments in such a short period of time rival those of the best fighters in the history of the sport. He doesn't need unfair advantages to win, unlike the other fellow.
