How long have you watched boxing for, and how did you get into it?

I will admit I haven't watched for that long.

I used to watch that wrestling when i was younger, but I got bored of it (still stream the big 4 ppv's if i'm not doing anything else) and I ended up sort of "graduating" into boxing (i was lucky it wasn't mma imo)

I started watching heavily around the time of the first harrison-sprott fight, if i remember rightly, after the main event they replayed graham earl vs michael katsidis, and i watched that and was hooked, it was either that or they showed something about benn-mclellan, i can't remember.

 

watched it alot when was on ITV (and when the BBC showed the likes of Haye etc) during the Eubank, Benn, Watson era etc, obviously Tyson and Bruno then watching and praying that Bruno would finally pull it off against McCall.

I kinda fell away from watching it, apart from the major fights like Barrera-Morales and Lennox Lewis and the odd Calzaghe fight.

What really got me back into it big time was Calzaghe dismantling of Lacy, now I watch or download every fight from the weekend and watch it or stay up until the small hours to watch it.

 

It was gradual progression, realised I liked Boxing when the Contender was on but didn't get into the Sport properly until Mayweather-Hatton and then what pushed me over the edge into full blown fandom was Cotto-Margarito after that I was always watching Boxing on Setanta and reading about it on the internet.

 

Em, I first got hooked on it when I was 5/6, I was in hospital getting my appendix out and for some reason Naz-Badillo was on TV(despite it being PPV, and me in a private room), for a 5/6 year old, that fight is great, Naz just dancing around the ring and pounding Badillo. After that I had an interest, watched it whenever it was on TV, and started following it hardcore when I was about 12/13.

 

Im a relative newbie as well, I got into it through a mixture of the Rocky films, Ricky Hatton hitting the US and Setanta showing all the big fights (the first one I watched was Cotto-Judah, and couldnt get over the euphoria and excitement that night had).

 

Sweet, that fight had a massive impact on me at the time too, what did you make of it then, and now, given the benfit of hindsight?

 

When Frank Warren came to ITV so '05, '06? After that I just started getting more and more into the sport. Without terrestrial telly I probably wouldn't be a boxing fan cos we didn't have Sky Sports.

About a year before I joined ESB I started really following the sport and used to check out 606. But I still wasn't aware of much below super-feather. Back then I only read the ESB front page but never really looked at the forums :huh.

But I followed Audley on the BBC after he turned pro and I was about 10

not to long, i used to watch it on ITV in the pub. when khan had just won his silver medal. that was about it until me and a mate fought it would be good be go see an event live. we got tickets for calzaghe kessler and hatton mayweather. since then ive started to get more and more into. learning new things bout the history of the sport all the time. :good

 

I loved it as a kid,Eubank,Benn,Bruno when it was on itv.Benn-Mclerren was a great fight to watch as a kid,i remember celebrating like crazy when Benn stopped him,little did i know of the tragedy of that night.Also some early Naz fights on itv were fun then the boxing went to sky that was about it, other then he (audley bbc debacle) until i got sky in 2002.Haye`s cruiserweight fights on sky got me really in to it again,since then Ive been hooked

 

Twenty years ago i was in my cousins house looking at his VHS tapes and came across Champions Forever. Borrowed it and i was hooked.

 

For as long as I can remember I have loved boxing. Got into it by watching my father's Mike Tyson video and the Rocky films. Always loved it and always will.

 

I've liked and been in awe of boxing since I was a kid, thanks to my dad.

He was a casual fan (but knew a fair bit of history) and bought me some kid gloves and used to slapbox with me a bit. There was also a framed b&w picture of him as a boxer with cuts and everything, looking fierce (he was an actor) that always sat on the mantle and stuck in my memory.

Tyson was at his peak during my childhood, so I was aware of him and the like but didn't truly start watching religiously until the rise of the lighter weight stars on HBO in the late 90's/start of the decade (Barrera, Morales, Tapia, Hamed, and later Pacquiao).

I've been getting exponentially more and more hooked every year since.

 

Just always have been into it which is weird as neither my dad or brother like it. My uncle had a few amateur fight in his younger days maybe it was his influence, I always looked up to him almost like a big brother (our ages are only a few years apart) so it was probably that.

I watch every fight I can and always have, always get boxing related stuff for my bday and xmas too.
