But how many people bother to consider lateral movement in the scheme of things? They think all heavy's have identical footwork and mobility and everything is equal with their opponent. No advantage or disadvantage so it's a non-issue. And of course, eveyone's defense is identical except for about 3 heavies the last 100 years.

Only punching power is used for comparison's of fighters, and for some reason, that is the be all and end all of arguments.

Back to the real world & Povetkin...

I think he's pretty good. Not great and certainly not poor. Kind of like a Jimmy Ellis type that might win a few but is definately up there with the elite heavies. Can he give a good account of himself? Sure. Win? that's another story. I think he fits right in with those 80's heavies that blew hot and cold, aside from Holmes and Tyson.
You know...Page/Berbick/Tubbs/Witherspoon/Coetzee/Dokes/and so on.

The other big subtraction I see with Alex is the guy has been through a million trainers. That's never a good thing & there's a reason why he changes often. Ever see much in the way of top production from the heavies that constantly change their corner? How about lots of title defenses by those guys---just how many manage to ever do that?

He's a very good fighter....but a little slow. I'd say good boxers with quick feet and good lateral movement take him down. Guys like Ali and Lewis would eat him up. I think (young) Tyson wins. I don't see him winning vs Holyfield.

But he beats a lot of other guys on the list.
