I understand Louis was undisputed, but most would say since our generation has splintered titles, the amount of defenses is up for debate. No need to get pissed off because I made a thread to discuss. Man, some of you guys get so butthurt.
Im not pissed off, I just think that if we count Joe Louis defenses when he was top 4 in the world- like an alphabet champ today- that he would be well over 30 defenses ! Unlike other divisions the Heavyweights have a direct line of lineage , we all know who the real champ is all the time. If you start to include these bogus belts as "defenses" then you are opening a can of dog****. Was Michael Bentt the worlds HW champ- of course not ! Get the point ?
I agree, but in our time it's not easy being undisputed (3-4 belts at once) I feel like if you 4 fighters, 4 champs, but 1 of the fighters were to defend his belt 19 times and the other 3 champs couldn't hold onto their belts long, then the fighter with the 19 defenses was the real champ. Just my 2 cents. P.S. For all reading, I am not a Wlad nut licker and this is my only account. Only ***gots use ALT's cause they are trolls.
Considering the guy is peaking at 36, he's going to go on till 40 at least. Probably another 10 fights. 22 straight defences of all the belts bar one, ****ing amazing if he does it given the quality of fighter that's coming through now, it will be tough.
I would agree the guys coming up are way better than the guys he's been fighting. I think he can be dethroned, but time will tell.
A few facts to consider: - Injuries have prevented Wlad from having 4 more fights in his record since 2009, they tend to be more ofen as the body slows down with age; - Wlad has sounded a bit negative about the possibility of landing fights against top contenders and it has materialized in the matchups; - The Klitschkos have been harder and harder to negotiate with. Low offers, 3 rematches are always in the contracts, despite the always increasing numbers they are collecting per fight; - Wlad has had a long and active career, he probably won't want to hit 40 years old still in the ring. He sounds wise and clever, someone who will pick the right moment to retire; - He is still a single guy with no kids. At 36 it should be bothering him a bit. Considering all of this, after Wach, it's safe to say Wlad will fight at least 3 more times in his career, but if he can't land at least 2 opponents out of the world top 10 in those next 3, I don't expect him to continue any further. Anyway, IMO, if he stays healthy, the most I believe he will go is another 8 fights.
Maybe they need to start paying people more then to get them in the ring. I know as a fighter I wouldn't wanna fight the heavyweight champ for 200K (example) when it's supposed to be a payday. I mean, if Wlad makes 6 million a fight (example) how hard is it to pay your foe at least 1 million?
This seems to have already been taken care off. If he gets by Wach then 2013 looks to be set up as his definitive year. Povetkin mandatory, IBF mandatory (possibly Pulev coming off two huge wins over Ustinov and Adamek) and he may even finish the year off with one of Huck/Boytsov/in shape Solis. For me if he got through all of those he's a cert to become at least an ATG top 10 hw.
I would imagine from a million pay deal after tax, training expenses, paying your team and managers you wouldn't end up with much more than 200'000 for example.
Very true. Especially since the guys Louis fought before he was champ (Baer, Sharkey, Carnera, Uzcudun, Pastor I) would be the best or among the very best wins that Wladimir has amassed during his reign.
