I think the Mancini vs Kim scenario was a tragedy that came at an accumulation of causes: 15 rounds, same day weigh-ins, outdoor fight in grueling Las Vegas heat, a braver challenger who would not pack it in There are not too many outdoor fights anymore and weigh-ins are 24 hours ahead so two factors have been eliminated Oddly enough after reading The Good Son a bio on Mancini the doctor working on Kim felt that it was not an accumulation that caused the death and that he was killed by the final blow/fall and that the aggressiveness he fought with in the prior rounds would not have been possible with a brain injury as bad as the one he had. Not sure what to make about that but I guess a longer fight and fatigue can create a fatal scenario for a fighter to be susceptible to a bad blow and fall, sort of like Patrick Day. In the end, boxing is dangerous and it will never be 100% safe. I guess the best fixes are stopping fights when someone is in distress and having corners and doctors take greater charge in pulling a fighter out when it is hopeless. I do think 12 rounds is enough time to sort out who is the better fighter. 15 rounds would be cool but feels unnecessary
I mean, of the course the argument is those extra 3 rounds make it more dangerous etc... Which is odd, because fighters have never been fitter and better trained, yet somehow they aren't able to do those 3 rounds that they could back in the day. Where does it end? What if they say 12 is too much and it must be a maximum of 10? I don't know, I don't see any real reason it HAS to be 15, I just don't really buy any of the reasons why it CAN'T be 15.
15 rounds, same day weigh in, if a fighter weight drains then that is their own personal responsibility regarding possible outcome. Lot of folk say 15 rounds and same day weigh in is unhealthy, yet they accept boxers weight draining/limiting fluids prior to weigh ins day before a fight, there is no medical expert who would say dehydrating self is healthy, likewise a boxer today fighting at his natural weight, could well be facing a rehydrated boxer who outweighs them by many many pounds, is that safe? A PED fuelled cheat is a danger in our sport, yet lot of folk are not in agreement long or lifetime bans are acceptable, even suggesting "they are all doing it",
Absolutely NO!!!!! To fight a 15 x 3 min round fight that's 45 mins two fighters are unloading on each other12x3 min rounds are 36 mins of fighters getting their heads blasted I easily long enough. Look at the tragedies that have occurred when fights have left to go too far. Remember the one where a fighter was declared ok by doctors after the fight then collapsed. There was no ambulance service to take him to hospital his trainer had to call a cab to take him to hospital. That was disgusting. Every fighter that climbs in the ring is putting his life at risk that he'll never walk out again Referees , cornermen & doctors too should stop these fights where one man is obviously not able to defend himself Several over the years should have been fired & stripped of their licenses & even prosecuted, promotors too in my opinion.
There has been scientific research done to set the rounds at 12 rather than 15. Severe health reasons. What advantage can any fighter have in 15 rounds that they wouldn't have in 12? If a fighter isn't conditioned for a 15 round bout, most likely he wasn't conditioned for a 12 round bout either. Getting beat on for 3 extra rounds while you are trying to find a will to continue leaves you open for nothing more than damage.
while boxing isn't 'most sports', most sports have a way of turning ties into result with extra time etc. Having a 1 round box off would require reading scorecards immediately to prevent the fighters' condition from improving. I think the scorers should have to hand their cards to an official at the end of each round. Judges shouldn't be able to change scores (and they f#c7ing do) and they must be forbidden from keeping score. Judges should be monitored more closely than gamblers at the casino
Same day weigh ins and 15 round fights. Fighters these days do not fight nearly as often as those that did same day weigh ins and also fought 15 rounds in the past as well as having greater scientific advances behind them. So basically modern day fighters would be fighting at there true weight and still fighting less rounds over there career than the original 15 round fighters did .
Yawn...and you get that from my opinion on 15 rounds? I'm assuming, since my opinion means I've never boxed, yours means you are a world champion who fought in the days of 15 rounders and have a wealth of personal experience to draw from?
Ahhh...so 36 minutes of repeatedly getting bashed around the head is ok? I mean, that's your argument. Tell me, what makes 36 such a perfect number in your eyes? You don't want it reduced from 36 minutes , right? So, 45 is too much but 36 is absolutely the best thing? You wouldn't want it to be, say 30 minutes would you (10 rounds)? Please, explain why 12 rounds is simply the best option? Or, are you saying 36 is the least you'd be happy with? I'm fascinated to hear your thoughts.
15 rounds boxing is a WAY BETTER sport than 12 rounds boxing. It will never come back. Too dangerous.
