I'm not even gonna get into the "shrugging" Ricky's apparently doing there, but the leg press is a pretty shitty exercise and is not much more than an ego machine. The squat is a far more accurate representation of leg power, and if we're gonna get into more useful lifts the lunge would be a lot better as I've yet to see any boxer move about bilaterally. Besides which, I see his kness bending no more than 3 inches there. Don't even know how much of a rep that is. Not trying to sound like a world-class strongman here, but I think this has gotten a little ridiculous how people are falling over themselves there.
It appaears Ricky is definitely doing 240, I've seen clearer footage now. Leg press isn't as good as squats, this is agreed but its serving a purpose and that is why he is not doing full motion. Who is falling over themselves? It is the opposite and that is what is silly. People have forgotten how strong a 5'6 10 stone man is. As soon as people talk about 240kg shrug not being impressive I switched off. EVEN if it is a machine.
Being able to move the weight at all is somewhat impressive but what purpose would moving 3 inches serve?
big deal hes using a tiny range of motion and a machine. BTW most of the siht he does is like that which is why hes ggetting rocked my PBF
Small range of motion because that is realistic to a boxing match. When in stance and planting his feet his knees are only bent a small amount and he has to produce/generate strength and power from that position. Kayes has explained this numerous times.
im not sayign its a useless excercise. but its not big deal to lift that mjuch with that small range of motion and with a machine
Mimicking a specific movement can be bad for you. What's worse is that lying on your back and pushing a weight up for 2" is about as unrealistic as I can think of for boxing. Something like a box squat at varying heights would be better and far more realistic as you're on your feet just like in boxing and it'd teach you to be able to explode up, just as you may need to for certain punches. Again, shitty exercise on an even shittier machine.
