AJ's best wins are all late 30/40s heavyweights well past their prime (Klitschko & Povetkin). AJ suffered a humiliating loss to Ruiz, being definitively stopped. In the rematch, his team bumped up the ring size from 18ft to 22ft and he proceeded to use every inch of it to run to a points decision on Ruiz. Eddie Hearn paid the ref in the Parker fight to help Joshua. Eddie Hearn reminds me of Canelos team, picking and fighting opponents at the right time So AJ has a great record beating 40 year olds and he has the leverage to negotiate advantages against the people he actually loses against like Ruiz. AJ and Ruiz are still 1-1 so theres still unfinished business there (especially with a 18ft ring).
Povetkin and Ruiz are both better fighters than Wilder. 41 year old Klitschko is certainly better than Wilder as well. All 3 beat him. Also it’s not AJ’s fault he’s been the favourite against everyone he’s fought.
I really hope this doesnt get pedalled as an excuse if Fury loses. Furys fans, team, family have said this will be his easiest fight and he will finish AJ early...so to use this excuse will be embarrassing for all. Ultimately Fury came back after 3 years off and drew (beat) Wilder so should be no reason he cant do it against AJ?
it's far from great for a guy who'll by then be almost 33 years old. though I expect him to be just about good enough to get away with it.
Late 30's. Fury schooled a 10-year super champion, where everyone believed he was unbeatable, anything more?
