Since Ortiz wasn't born yet, and television transmissions from outside Cuba were blocked by the Communist Cuban government in the 1970s, and Cuba didn't have closed circuit television technology at the time ... I'm going to say he saw it with his dad later ... likely in the early 1990s, when Ortiz was a kid, after the Soviet Union collapsed and Cuba got a little more relaxed ... and the fight was routinely reshown on international television channels. Ortiz saw Ali-Foreman live with his dad just like he fought Pernell Whitaker in the 1984 Olympics (which people on this board have also claimed). It's time to stop.
Again, Cuba blocked transmissions from outside the country back then. And Cuba didn't have closed circuit technology. So he couldn't watch Ali fight live ... even if he was alive ... unless they somehow left Cuba and paid for a closed circuit ticket in a country that was showing it ... and then returned to Cuba without anyone noticing. He likely saw rebroadcasts of Ali's fights in the early 1990s when he was a kid and they began to routinely be rebroadcast on television ... because his age has been consistent since he's been on the boxing scene for almost 20 years. That's what all this nonsense is based on? Because one of your "sources" told you Ortiz "told them" he watched Ali fight Live when he was little? (LOL) Christ. Did your source live in Communist Cuba in the 1970s? It's not like they could flip on the television and catch the latest Hollywood movie on Netflix.
Thanks. I'm sure it was a mistake. The mods around here like to ban all Wilder fans before any Wilder, Fury or Joshua fight ... seems to be a pattern.
If he's older than George was at 45 when he beat Moorer then it is significant to verify his true age. He must have family members alive, classmates in Cuba and some government documentation originating from his homeland which can settle this debate once and for all.
He's also been fat all those years. This is the first time he's been lean. Just like Wlad at 41 who had a six pack but sagging skin. Briggs is late 40s but doesnt have that skin. It's hard to say.
IF Ortiz really is 45+ (I doubt it), then if he beats Wilder and becomes World Champ, we'll hear about it soon enough as I'm sure he's want to beat Foreman's record. I'm 40 but regularly get told I look 30-35. Some friends my age look 50 and could pass for 55. Ortiz looks pretty much 40 to me, the slightly sagging skin is easily explained by weight fluctuations and some people just have looser skin and/or wrinkle more quickly anyway. Unless there's some actual evidence or real reason to believe he's older, I can't see the constant obsession with this. And him saying he watched Ali on the TV when he was little is not evidence, may have been a rerun or documentary years later. Plenty of boxers 40 and younger have been influenced by watching Ali.
The poor old man boxed well and dominated Wilder for six rounds. But a man's stamina is not the same at age 50 as it is at age 35. The judges gave round 6 to Wilder, shows how dishonest they are. Ortiz won EVERY round until he collapsed from a weak punch due to his advanced age.
