    rubbish.

the only reason todays fighters are fighting longer, is because the level of competition they face is not what it was 40 to 100 years ago, when there was 1 title in each division, no 'super' this or 'junior' that.

when they fought years ago, mostly it was against the best they could handle, on the way up, or the way down. sports medicine has little to do with it. neither does diet. there are many variables that influence your 'true age'.

40 yrs old, 15 amateur bouts some 15 yrs ago. Giving such a person licence is just stupid, to old, to inactive and just a waste of everyones time. VIC boxing commission didnt seem to mind though and gave Dale Berry a licence.

throw him in a league fight and see how he goes, they let them fight at any age in the league. getting a pro licence he just has to show he has been active which the league fight or two would help with.

I guess it depends on the guy. e.g. Jeff "Flash" Malcolm @ 46 was still able to give guys a lesson or two

Boxing at any level has an audience and audiences mock fighters. If he doesn't think he can handle it what's the point of him returning.
