How optimistic are we about the future of Kell Brook?

Here I've listed a few fringe contenders that are relatively well known names in most cases at welterweight. Not including top 5 guys, because that would be ridiculous at this point.

Which can he beat? Tick the boxes.

How serious of a talent do you think he is?

My personal opinion is that he is going NOWHERE and will fold under pressure. I will bookmark this thread and we'll see how peoples assessments look in a year or so.

I really rate Brooke, but it is so hard to tell how good he will be, he's fought nobody of note yet but has looked great so far, I have a feeling he may have a weak chin though.

Didn't United sign Daniele Petrucci? :D We shouldn't let our players go boxing as much as I know Ronaldo would love to do so on his days off.

I think a few of those guys might be asking a bit much for a year. Especially as he's now out for a while with his broken hand. Hopefully it won't be a problem over his career like Calzaghe.

As of yet I am unsure. I do have high hopes for him, he is only 22 so can take his time. So far all we know is he's too good for domestic journeymen. After the Mutley fight if it will still happen at a later date I think we'll be better placed to judge him.

At the moment I'd say N'dou and Forbes. His chin is an unknown quantity and it doesn't help that he leaves it hanging out.

There is logic to the way I ordered the names. Quintana and Judah I included for those that might be most enthused about Brook's short-term potential.

The rest are in the order of how likely they are to beat him in my opinion.

nufc16, you really think he beats Aydin?

Have you watched Aydin? To me this is the EXACT fighter to make mincemeat of Kell Brook. Absolute down to a tee. Aydin is as strong as a bull, is rarely bothered by his opponents punches and will continually march his opponent down throwing bombs all the way. I think we are going to be shocked when Kell Brook faces somebody with a good chin that is not going to stand there in admiration of his work. I think his power won't look half as good as it did against glass jawed fighters, and his reflex based defence that is prone to leaving his chin in the air when throwing a right cross...it will be exposed.

It's so hard at the moment to give a decent opinion. His competition hasn't been all that and there are still some questions that haven't been answered, like his chin. I don't think I've seen it be tested yet, then again I've only seen his most recent few fights. He defo has power though, which I think he will be able to carry through to higher levels.

One thing is for sure he won't beat the top 10 guys leaving his chin out to dry like he does right now. He's asking to be knocked out. And I have a sneaking suspicion that his chin won't be all that. Don't know why and I hope I'm wrong, as he is a bright prospect.

I'm just being honest, I don't see anything special in the kid. His power is not that great. McIntyre has been knocked out Lord knows how many times so that was not a great surprise. The last guy he fought was a can. B. Jones caused him some trouble and took him into the latter stages.

His defence is porus. He barely even keeps his gloves above his chin and relies on the slightest bit of head movement. He then drops his left when throwing a right hand and lifts his chin in the air completely exposing himself.

I don't see this great speed either. He has "okay" speed.

The only thing I see going for this guy is some natural timing and counterpunching ability. Other than that his chin better be good or he's going down fast!

I went for Forbes because of the size difference and Baldomir because he is pretty much past it.

Some of the others I have hardly seen so cant comment either way.

Its way too early for the guys at the top end of that list.
