no, you never boxed in your life. boxing is not basketball, baseball or football, it's fighting. Lifting doesn't make you hit harder or move faster. there is strength training but it's very low weights.

Cheers for the reply, dealt_with. I see the sense in what you say, especially the part about running not being transferable.

I've always stayed away from weight training, I agree that they will slow a fighter down significantly

Hold on...I was just listening to an interview with B-Hop and he clearly stated that he feels weights are not good for boxers. I could be wrong, but I don't think mayweather does much weight training either.

I found this in a men's health magazine:

    Don't Rely on Weights
Mayweather doesn’t use free weights often; he prefers to build upper body strength in different ways. Other than hitting the mitts, which is Mayweather’s favorite way to work his arms, his go-to equipment is a medicine ball. Holding the medicine ball in both hands, he’ll throw the ball up, catch it, push it up, then bring it down again and repeat. And when he’s not using a medicine ball, he’s supplementing his workout with bodyweight exercises.

Only 6 rounds of sparring? Weights?? No mention of proper diet??? You clearly do not know how champions get it done:

    0600 Wake up, meditate 1hr
0700 Eat psilocybin, steak and scotch
    0745 Shadowbox 10rd
    0830 Smoke a j, Begin roadwork (36 x 400m sprint/200m walk)
    1030 Eat steak and scotch
    1100 Take a nap
1700 Smoke PCP, eat steak and scotch, go to gym:
    -Shadowbox 6 rd
    -Spar 15rd
    -Double-End bag 6rd
    -Shadowbox 4rd
1900 Eat steak and scotch, shower, smoke a j, study boxing film
2200 Take ecstasy, engage in vigorous intercourse with 3 or 4 women
0000 Smoke a j, eat steak and scotch, take a nap

I used to be a very successful boxer. I would finish my workouts with 10,000 situps, 100 dumbbell curls and 50 cartwheels. This would be followed by catching a live chicken and eating it raw. I used to have Juan Manuel Marquez' urine shipped in to replace lost nutrients.

Dealt-with is spot on. Periodization and conjugate training systems are by far the best approach to any training.

Everything he said was correct. You are misinterpreting the word "exceptional".

Well not every pro can get enough quality sparring or even have sparring partners. It depends where you live and what kind of team you have supporting you. Some pros go to work, so it makes to plan the training program differently. It was just an example about training day. They can have training camps when more sparring.
