Dempsey is great, there's no question of that. I'm amongst his harshest critics and I don't doubt that for a second. But whatever the colour of the men who hold him in high regard or the men who criticise him now I think the information age has shown he is clearly not as great as that generation thought him (hence the backlash). I personally don't believe race has anything to do with it. Well, maybe that one guy who keeps re-upping after every ban and attacking all white fighters
Well put it this way, few put Langford or Wills in their top heavyweights. Is this because they were bigoted or just because of ignorance of their achievements and ability? Part of it is probably that they were ignorant to the truth that Dempsey didn't beat the best men of his time Part of it also rose tinted glasses and fans having a contempt for modern/current boxers. Either way when analysed the judgement is both biased and incorrect
