How was Kessler's 2008?

I don't understand this. The guy's had more championship fights outside his 'comfort zone' than most fighters at that level.

Too many people apply different standards to different fighters.

 

Kessler is good. Actually he is great. Most people would have him somewhere in top 10-15 p4p right now.

Which is why we don't hld him to the same standard as some B-level fighter.

In that perspective 2008 has been a bad'ish year for Kessler. He is very respected, but if he wants it to stay that way or to further improve, he cannot have more bull**** fights against unknowns (no matter how good anyone claims they 'really' are).

 

No-one is talking about holding him to the same standards as B-level fighters. My point is that he should be held to the same standards as other fighters of the same level, with regard to the point I responded to.

 

Which top 15 p4p4 fighter has in the last couple of years met two complete unknown fighters in a row - without receiving criticism? :huh

 

Hmm, I suppose Pavlik sandwiched the Lockett and Rubio bouts with Hopkins, and Cotto the Gomez and Jennings fights with Margarito. But Kessler did what he needed to do to secure a belt.

Again, though, not really the point I was responding to with regard to 'comfort zones'.

 

First he has to fight someone decent that people have heard about before comfort zone or not even becomes an issue.

 

If I were Simon Cowell I would say: Forgettable!

I'm not so I'll say: Wasted!

 

Not good enough. 2009 better have far better competition.

It was decent but at the expectations from him it was weak.Too bad the Miranda fight didn't happen as he would have KO'd him

Your post is an example of how a promoter can build up a record. First, Sartison has never knocked Bute. Even if that was true, imagine if it was when both guys were 12 years old, is it worthwhile something? Amateur and pro are two different things. But I repeat, Sartison has never knocked Bute. Then, the perfect record. That means nothing. Winning against tomato cans means nothing. He never was a threat to Kessler, he was a sure win, a walk in the park. And that's the kind of match up Kessler has to avoid in the future if he wants to keep his reputation.

 

So he should avoid Miranda, who is a sure win and a walk in the park. :think

He should fight a good fighter at least once a year. I forgive him though, he was coming back from a loss, had a surgery, and he took a way to regain a belt. He will try to get bigger fights in 2009. I just don't want to hype Dimitri Sartison.
