Didn't seem to harm Monzon too much.
I think it was thrusting his fat face in all those bowls of apple pie and cream that did for him, that ,and the "drugged tea", of course.

This of course assumes that Johnson was prime when he met Hart.

    Below
Johnson looks appreciably more thicker set and ,more powerful here, sparring prior to the Jeffries fight.

    And here, training in Reno.

Johnson fought Hart in March 1905.

In April 1906 Johnson scaled 185lbs for his fight with Langford.

In November 1907 he scaled 184lbs for his fight with Flynn.

Johnson stated he was in the shape of his life for the Jeffries fight in July 1910, he was 208lbs,that is over 5years after the Hart fight.
It is likely Johnson was no more than a big lightheavy at best, when he fought Hart.
If the 1910 ,208lbs ,Johnson fought the Hart of 1905 ,who would win?:think

Prime Jeffries v prime Johnson, might have been the forerunner of Ali Frazier1.:good

    Mcvey,

I find it amusing that you list dates and post pictures, and then spin your story around it. It really does not change anything except your small mind. There really is no need to reply to that type of stuff. Keep up the good work!

Johnson lost to Choysnki because he could not take the punch, lost to Hart because of his low punch out put, and lost to Williard because he lacked the power to hurt him. Johnson's weights were secondary in these fights. In-between these fights, he was embarrassed badly by much smaller men in Ketchel who floored him, and O'Brien who likely out boxed him. He was floored and hurt in a 4rd vs. Smith, and gave title fights to hacks. He avoided the 4-5 best fighters as champion. That is the funny part! You cannot change the facts I write regardless of how many times you post pictures and list different weights. You will never get it.

You like a 4th member of the three stooges, except you are not as funny. Face the facts, you are a sad cancerous old man with nothing better to do. You should thank me for posting here. I give you reason to wake up every morning.

Jeff had nothing left...he had an alfalfa farm..and he caved in to the public pressure to fight Jack Johnson..he was out of shape...lost over 100 pounds in a short period of time...but he had nothing left...

Those are the worst shorts I've ever seen ( Hart's ). I wouldn't even fight a guy who showed up in the ring looking like that.

Please point out the inaccuracies regarding dates and ,weights in my post so I can correct them.
Personally I found the 3 Stooges bloody awful.

Did you watch a lot of that retro stuff when you were in" The Cuckoo's Nest" with Mr McMurphy, and Nurse Ratched?

I have plenty of reasons to wake up in the morning,a wonderful partner,5 stepchildren,6 grandchildren,4 dogs, many great friends, and relations ,and a lovely home.
I am financially comfortable,[ I retired at 56, others make my daily bread for me now,] it's all cake ,and very rich cake at that.££££
To steal a phrase from " Good Will Hunting".

" How do you like them apples? "

Enough of the pleasantries, down to business.

How about you answer the question I put to you ?

Are you stating that you have seen the Ryan /Jeffries sparring match?

And, as I before cautioned ,think VERY CAREFULLY before you answer.

    Answer any time this year:yep

The Choynski punch landed on Johnson's temple I beleive ,the Ketchel punch? Well its debatable if it really landed with any impact at all, it appears to curve around Johnson's ear.The only ko punch that I am convinced was legit , and is on film, was the right hand Willard landed in the 26th round, when Johnson was 37 years old. Of course from this ,you deduced that Johnson was chinny. Really ,you need to get a life.

I might be prepared to offer you employment, as a handyman cum gardener, when things were slack you could double up as a resident Fool as in King Lear.
What do you say? By the way, is your first name Chauncey.

Do you get the reference or, do you need it explaining to you Rainman?

    Y'all come back soon hear!:hi:

ps If this post comes across as blatantly smug ,self satisfied and ,condescending ,GOOD, because that's how I feel when I converse with and, read your pathetic , subnormal offerings Mr Chimp , bloody blessed!

This was brought up because people were claiming he had to lose all that weight in a FEW months... That is why the matter of HOW much time he had came up. So while the point you're trying to make is valid, it seems you missed why it was brought up in the first place; which wasn't because of the premise and conclusion you seem to be insinuating on why. Yes, it wasn't a good thing he had to lose all that weight no matter for how long. Nobody at any point as had otherwise. However, what IS a valid point, is that if you have THAT much time to lose the weight.. you can do it in a healthy and progressive manner so that it is not very detrimental to your body. That is an absolute fact. Nobody is saying it's a good thing or helped it out. The point is, when you have that much time to lose it, it can be done in a pretty healthy manner. Jeffries may not have, but the time was certainly there to do so.

This is bull**** for three reasons: 1. Whatever you are doing, or not doing to gain 100 pounds of excess weight is unhealthy and just that alone is going to have a detrimental effect on your body, moreso if you are a professional athlete trying to compete at the sports highest level. 2. Once that weight is gained the stress, and harmful effects it has on your body will have a telling and lasting effect. It might not be that noticable to the average Joe who walks around overweight anyway, but to a professional athlete who counts on being a fraction faster, or stronger, etc etc. than his opponent those effects are very real and very detrimental to maintaining a level of performance expected of you. 3. Losing that weight, as I said before, whether you lose it in 3 months or 18, or whatever, is also going to take a toll on your body. People here can split hairs all they want (and they are doing so to cast dispersions on Jeffries and his relative chances against Johnson had they fought prime for prime, make no mistake) but the facts are that Jeffries had been retired, as retired as a fighter can possibly get, for five years. He gained upwards of 100 pounds and the photos back this up. He aged, and he had no interest in fighting anymore when he faced Johnson. Anyone who wants to argue that the 1910 version of Jeffries is somehow comparable to the 1900 version of Jeffries can keep trying to do so but in light of the above facts you just make yourself look stupid. Could Jeffries have ever beaten Johnson? I dont know. But you can be damn certain he would have done a better job than he did in 1910 had he not been an old fat disinterested and inactive man when they actually fought.
