You're 100% right about Cotto getting tagged. I actually rewatched the gomez fight last night and noticed i believe in rnd 2 that gomez caught cotto with a very flush right hook. I was like damn, Cotto needs to make sure he doesnt get too comfortable. so yes, you are right, Cotto's defense isnt the best, but it's not terrible either. You say that Cotto may get discouraged like Castillo did. Havent you noticed that Cotto doesnt get flustered. He fights his fight. Also, outside of that cut under his lip, Cotto is not prone to getting cut or to swelling. But hopefully, this fight will pop off and then we'll be able to talk all the trash we can once the winner is declared. I'll be ready to take it like a man if Cotto loses, but I dont know how Floyd fans will be able to handle it.
He won't limit Cotto's punch output unless he gets on his track shoes really moves throws a shot and clinches ala Hopkins. Otherwise Cotto will release punches at will(not those wide DLH punches, or those telegraphed Hatton punches), and Floyd won't get Cotto's respect unless he sporadically pressures Cotto with combinations. If Floyd wants to 1 shot Cotto at a time, He won't win it :deal The Check hooks won't land, the lunging rights won't land and even if they do they won't land enough to win rounds. Floyd is going to have to Counter Cotto in the midsts of exchanges and inside fire. Will he do it? lets wait and see:smoke
Mayweather doesnt get hit because he has one of the best defenses in boxing history. He has fought in the pocket against the likes of Corrales, Castillo, Corley, Chavez, Ndou and Hatton. His inside fighting ability is praised throughout boxing. He was caught much the same way Cotto was caught against Corley, only difference is Mayweather was dancing across the rings on cloud 9, he was hit, back into the ropes, covered up and allowed Corley to punch himself out. People change their opinions after every fight. After the Mosley fight I doubt anyone had Cotto beating Mayweather. After te Gomez fight where Gomez made Cotto looked faster, stronger and better defensively then he really is, more people are starting to sway to his corner, but Floyd is still conclusively the favorite.
Cotto will force PBF to exchange punches . . . or PBF won't win a single round. :yep :yep :yep :yep :yep :yep :yep :yep :yep :yep :yep
He TKO'd Bruseles didnt he? But I agree, anyone that believes Floyd will hurt Cotto with one punch is insane. Floyd doesnt KO Cotto unless his gloves are filled with horseshoes.
Sorry Oscar didn't just get tiered , well he got tiered of being countered but floyd defiantly took this tool away from oscar, as he did zab and the corrales and other fighters as well .. floyd movement and his ability to counter the jab with both hand, keeps his opposites guessing before launching the jab,, I'm not saying by no means that cotto can't be successful with the jab but it is time to stop making the excuse that Oscar stop using the jab because he got tiered and Zab had the fight won until he back off , the truth is floyd made them back off and he has done the same thing to other fighters. Hatton is another fighter you can add to that list , once he started getting counter by the left hook and right hand he stopped using the jab and tried to walk floyd down.. If cotto going to be successful with the jab against floyd, he's going to have to be ironed willed, I also don't think pressure will do any good ether because Floyd stays in shape year round and you can tire yourself out applying pressure just as well just as fast as being pressured. If Cotto going to beat Floyd he going to have to out smart floyd , he will have to turn the table on floyd and take his weapons away , make floyd think twice before reacting , if cotto can do that then he can beat floyd.
Here is a big question for those who think Floyd can win EASILY. How many of you think Floyd can win the same way he has won his last few fights, which is by simply using his defensive techinique.?? or........for you more realistic fans... How many of you believe that Cotto will bring out the best in FLoyd (offensively)? In order for Floyd to win, he will actually have to fight Cotto.
you know what. i'm not even going to argue about bruseles b/c i cant remember right now. what i do remember about that fight was that it was before the patriots won the super bowl and the commentators were asking eachother for their super bowl picks. floyd over heard while he was fighting and looked down at them and said "Patriots". that was hilarious. anyways, i'll have to look that fight up. if he did tko him, my bad on the stats.
Thats what everyone says about the next fighter to fight Floyd. Yet Floyd constantly boasts the best Compubox numbers since its inception, his opponents simply dont land. And Cotto is no Calzaghe, he doesnt throw a plethora of punches so I dont see how he will fair better then the faster stronger de la hoya. Again many fighters have found it quite easy to hit Cotto. Why would Floyd have any greater difficulty seeing as he is the most precise puncher in boxing?
Floyd is a thinking fighter , would never use the same game plan he used to beat fighter B to beat fighter A .. I can't answer your second question because Floyd like to sand bag his fights alot and use only what needed to win..
I dont think Floyd will fight Cotto like he fought Hatton and De La Hoya. I think he will mix it up as he did in his fights against Castillo, Corley and Judah. I think Cotto and Floyd will touch gloves during the fight in the middle. With Floyd fighting off the back foot early on. That very well could be true. Floyd cant and wont potshot and beat Cotto. Cotto has range unlike Hatton and can box. You cant potshot a boxer.
i agree with your 2nd statement a lot. of course i think cotto can win. however, i do think floyd holds back a lot, which is a scary thought. he can dominate with defense, so what will happen if he unleashes offensively. a lot of people think he can destroy cotto the way he did gatti if he lets his hands go. but i think floyd would only do that to someone he knows is way beneath him in talent level. i dont believe he would let his hands go like that against cotto.
