To call Mosely the new Ray Robinson was indeed laughable EVEN BEFORE he lost to Forrest.

He should be remembered as 1 of the best boxers of his time & 1 of the best LWTs of all time but obviously not the best.

Hall of Famer for sure. Steroids or no steroids it does nothing to tarnish his legacy. Steroids don't win you a fight. Early on I pegged him as to be one of the best ever, but things got muddled along the way. If he would have stuck at 135 I think he would have been all time top 5 for that weight class. Of course thats all speculation but he is virtually unbeatable under 147.

I assume he took the steroids for something other than to look good on the beach. Steroids don't fix a glass jaw but there had to have been a reason for him to take them.

They don't give you a home-run or win you a race either, but they give athletes who are already great in those fields a chance to illegally improve their abilities.

I'm not sure how much longer Mosley could've stayed at 135. He was very big at that weight class. There's guys I'd pick over him there but I think his talent and abilities (and size advantage due to modern weigh-in rules) would make him a tough test for any LW.

Mosley was a great fighter, although his resume outside of DLH is a little weak. He was probably the 2nd most physically gifted of the top fighters of this era, outside of RJJ. I think his remarkable athletic gifts allowed him to get away with a lot of things.

Mosley admitted it, but used the old "I didn't know what I was taking" defense.

Of course they help with recovery allowing one to train harder and certain anabolics increase red blood cell count. But keep in mind Mosley is one of the only ones that admitted to it/was caught. We don't know how many fighters were using. The olympics which are supposed to be considered top of the line as far as drug testing admittedly only catch between 5-10% of athletes actually doping. I'm not defending his actions but I doubt Mosley would have been any different whether he took drugs or not.

    So where does Mosely rank?

    Below or above Hoya?

Below. DLH's overall achievements/resume are superior, even if Mosley has the edge head-to-head.

Among the top fighters of the past 15 or so years?

Probably Tszyu, and Wright, even though Winky has the advantage head-to-head. I think Shane is below others like Pacquiao, DLH, Mayweather, Jones, Hopkins, Morales, and Barrera.

Why would you rank him above Wright?

Arguably Wright beat Vargas as did Mosley along with Taylor...
