Pretty well considering how he faired with Pascal. Super middle to light heavy has a lot of guys who made the jump successfully and I don't think Froch would have a problem either.
I'd fancy he could win a title up at Light Heavy. He'd fit the weight well and i think it be a natural progression in 2012 (Later in year if successful in Supersix). Obviously the fight most would like to see is Pascal II. Or even Cleverly if he does the biz. He'd do alright IMO. Also be nice way to top career off to say ''Two Weight World Champion''.
He'd be fine. There really isn't much of a difference between 168 and 175 lbs. But the way boxing is with the loads of weight divisions, the best weight for Froch is Super Middleweight right now. If he wanted to, Froch could probably make middleweight in the same way that Arthur Abraham did and the same way that Allan Green and Glen Johnson have made 168 lbs. But it's not natural to do that and Froch is a sensible boxer so he doesn't need to try to gain any advantages by fighting a weight class below what he actually is. Light heavyweight isn't a weight class where size is usually a factor as it is in other divisions. I think Froch would beat most of the top 175 lb guys at the moment and it'd be close between him, Dawson and Pascal.
It's a tough one. His physicality has a lot to do with his success at super middle. I don't see why he couldn't beat some top light heavy's and pick up a strap, but as we found out with people like Pavlik going up in weight when your strength is one of the major reasons you dominate guys is not a good idea. Now i know Carl is much more skilled then Pavlik, but the way their physicality is so important in getting their game started is kind of similar. Could he out gun people like Cloud? i don't think he could, even though i don't particularly rate Tavoris that highly. Also by the time he moved up to light heavy, if thats the plan then it'll be much tougher.
I agree with Slip, when being the stronger man is such a big part of your game it can be hard moving up in weight.
That's always the issue moving up in weight but I don't think Froch uses his strength as much as you're hinting at though. When he's at his best, he's usually boxing from a distance and isn't much of an inside fighter, although he can hold his own there. A fight against Cloud for example would be a tough one but I think Carl's physically as strong if not stronger than Tavoris Cloud and he's certainly bigger so I don't see any issue there. Weight is no where near as important as most people seem to think these days.
Depends on the level of the fighter moving up in weight. The greats can make it look easy, for mere mortals its still a very big factor IMHO.
By his strength and physicality, i don't mean he's some kind of brawler, who doesn't have skills and who uses his weight all the time. What i mean by his physicality, is his ability to hurt and keep opponents off by getting their attention and his own punch resistance. That's what would be compromised if he went to light heavyweight. It's not like he's struggling to make 168 anyway.
Yeah I agree with that. In pure boxing terms, weight would be irrelevant. But you're right it depends on the level as lower level fights tend to have more holding and a 'rough and tumble' style to them whereas elite level world class boxing is more technical. At lower weights, sometimes they'll make a weight which is completely unnatural for them. For example Antonio Margarito usually weighs around 160 lbs + in the ring, yet often makes welterweight at 147 lbs. Put him in with someone who's equally as skilled as Margarito but only weighs 150 lbs in the ring then of course the bigger Margo's gonna have a big advantage. But when you get up past the middleweight division, the differences become less and less. I can't think of one example in recent years where a super middleweight has had problems after moving to 175, purely down to now having a size disadvantage. I really don't see how that would be an issue at all for Froch in this instance.
Would probably give Pascal and Dawson a good run for their money. I think those are too close to call Would get beaten easily by Bernard Hopkins imo
