How would Lee Selby fare at world level?

Not too good, his power doesnt seem all that and sometimes throws too many pitter patter punches and leaves himself wide open

 

Gonzalez would spark him, as would Donaire, Salido,Mares,Walters. He might do better vs Gradovich,Lopez,De leon etc.

Badly he will get his ass sparked by most and will be beaten by any of the top names, he really isn't anything special he lacks power but also i find his fundamentals quit average.

 

Still a little way off it, The division a year ago was significantly weaker to what it is now. The SBW's coming up has made the division a much more dangerous waters. I fancy the FW scene will transition a fair bit this year with lots of changeovers in titles.

Lee's talented, He's getting judged on his power or lack of it. He took guys out 2-3 years ago but things change. People are now prepared to get hurt and aren't doing what Smith and Simpson tried to do as much.

TBH he hurt Rendall with a lovely right hand, love the way he created the angle for it. So the power's there but he's got to work the openings more and he's got to step to guys at times but he's tall and he's probably being taught not to walk in and give away reach/height.

I see a lad who's looking to learn, trying things in the ring. He's got a lot to work on but he's talented and tonight he showed improvements that he didn't show in 2013 so for me tonight was positive.

I think it's a case of manoeuvring him to the WBA or IBF straps over the next 18 months. Quality fights over Quantity as now is a different landscape for him compared to 12 months ago when he signed with Eddie.

Lee was inactive with just Okine and Lindsay wins over space of 15 months so Eddie did the right thing and got him fighting but it clearly showed that it was taking away from his performances in the end as 2013 he met 2 quality operators and 2 domestic/Commonwealth level operators in McConnell and Walsh.

I'd fancy him to win a world title. I think he's a nice box-fighter with a multi layered style who's still in development stages of career.

I personally just can't see him at the very top level, watched tonight having not seen an awful lot of him in truth, and I wasn't really impressed. He got caught with a few left hands that he shouldn't of took, and the power issue is obviously an issue... He is still learning as you say and would like to see him do well as he is British, but I am certainly not on the hype just yet.

 

Not very good beaten domestic opposition is one thing but fighting the elite is a whole different kettle of fish..Selby will get found wanting at the elite level

 

He wouldn't fare at all.

 

Selby should take his time defend that Euro belt a few times get a final eliminator and try for a world title in 2015.

 

Selby i like as a fighter many don't.

He is a cut above domestic level but in truth maybe a tad short of world title winning level good skills,decent handspeed but certainly not as powerful as the SKY commentary team would have you think.

 

He reminds me a bit of a cross between Geale and Khan - without the chin of Geale or the skill of Khan.

 

Strange how people's perceptions change.

6-8 months ago Selby was a 'big puncher' on these boards, now he's the opposite.

 

He certainly isn't feather fisted decent power & skilled.

Most people that thought he could just walk through people i suggest had only seen him against Smith who he took out in style.

Believe it or not Tony Borg had instructed him to make sure he got rounds in other than try to take oppt out clean earlier fights.

 

Yeah that's believable i've noticed in a few fights he takes his time when he could easily close the show early.
