How Would Tommy Morrison Do In Today's Heavyweight Scene?

Would he be a contender, a champion or a journeyman? How do you feel he would perform against guys like Wilder, Joshua & Ortiz? Would he have beat the Klitschko's?

 

He'd ice Wilder and Charr. Parker? Need to see a bit more of him to judge. Morrison would have an early puncher's chance vs Joshua, that's about it.

I'd rank him about #3-5 today, behind Joshua, and Povetkin.

 

He would KO Wilder and win WBC belt. Then defende it 2 times and lose it to Takam because too much partying and drugs.

 

He would be suspended

 

He wouldn't pass the drug tests that's for sure

 

vs Parker would be a nice fight. i'd back him to beat wilder in a shootout.

I think Morrison's best fight was vs Mercer after that he went downhill

As I've said before in a post about AJ vs Tommy Morrison, Tommy's chin isn't the greatest. I think he loses to AJ by TKO, maybe round 7 or 8, something like that.

Wilder's an interesting one. I don't feel that wilder favours too well against fighters who come forward. Mainly because he's hardly fought anyone who comes forward. He doesn't have the experience against those kinds of fighters. We've seen him spar with Haye, but that's about it. So for now, I give the win to Tommy, maybe on points. But I think it's a tough one for both guys, and there could well be a knockout either way.

The fight against parker would be an absolute war. Parker holds a slight weight advantage in this one, and their styles are similar. Parker also has the better chin it's safe to say, although we haven't seen him against a proper, hard puncher. I think both guys' chins are tested and it's definitely a back and forth kind of fight. They are very well-matched. Tommy has the experience, Parker has the height and weight advantages and a better chin. I can't choose between them really. I think Tommy's experience gives him a slight edge.

I'd definitely favour Ortiz over Morrison. Ortiz is the bigger guy although not by much. He also has the height, reach, weight advantages. And both guys have good experience, although ortiz hasn't fought at the very highest level. Both guys have good power. It's similar to the AJ fight in how it pans out. Morrison is competitive but will struggle against Ortiz' power. Ortiz may well have more power than AJ and Wilder, and is definitely being overlooked by a lot of people. I have Ortiz winning this one by KO, late rounds.

One fight I think Tommy does really well in is the Wladimir Klitschko matchup. Wlad seems to struggle against come-forward brawler styles. Wlad does have a very powerful counter-punch though, so tommy would need to be careful. I think Tommy gets him, maybe around round 6 or 7. Wlad is definitely in the fight though, it's not hugely one-sided.

He struggles against Vitali. Vitali is huge, he's physically stronger, better technically. Tommy might be in the fight for the first 2 rounds, but Vitali figures him out and stops him around round 5 or 6. Vitali is the most balanced of the fighters mentioned here. He has the strength and power to come forward, and good enough movement to defend and box.

 

Prime Klitschko would deal with Morrison and Michael Bentt on the same night, or any other Morrison oponent. I'd put Morrison alongside people like Browne and Dillian Whyte although more chinny.

 

he would win the IBO title at best. Without the platform that Stallone gave him, you couldnt expect much more.

but it would be cut short by illness/HIV sadly, since if he was dumb enough to live in denial back then, he's repeat the same mistakes again.

 

Has a chance against them all... But probably loses to Joshua and Povetkin - Would make him a favorite against Wilder and Parker but on a bad night he could get Bentt'd. 7/10 times he beats those two though.

 

He'd loose to Joshua, Fury and Usyk if he fought all 3 of those guys. But Joshua better watch out for that left hook(LOL). I'd favor him over Wilder tbh but i wouldn't bet on it because Morrison is a glass cannon, Morrison showed good boxing against Foreman and landed some monster shots. He also showed great talent against Williams but he also showed his glass chin. Szpilka had a glass chin too though and he ate a lot of Wilders shots before round 9. Wilder also got caught with multiple left hooks against Molina and Ortiz and Morrisons was quite a bit faster.

He'd beat Chisora and Parker, probably comfortably. He'd send Whyte into the shadow realm, would outwork Joe Joyce like he did Foreman and would probably KO Ortiz by round 8.

Morrison had a devastating left hook but skill wise he was average at best in the 90s and didn't do much besides going life and death with a past it Ruddock, draw with Ross Purity and school a past it Foreman. He'd be a force to be reckoned with in today's era though if you have guys like 37 year old Chisora, past it fring contender Arreola and shot to bits Povetkin causing havoc in the heavyweight division

 

You forgot to add the choice of being busted by Vada a lot because of there testing advancements.

 

If they made him take a urine test today he may very well melt the cup (allegedly)

 

Or, he could claim tainted beef, request a flawed follow-up method and his pals would change the regulatory standards from that day forward
