    Funny isn't it?

I really can't see the basis for these people thinking that he would do any worse than some of the guys who are around today... Christ, Nikolay Valuev compiled a 46-0 record, won a world title, and was one of the top 5 best men in this era for close to like 6 years, yet couldn't get a decisive win over shot versions of Holyfield, Ruiz or Donald.. Wlad has been beaten by lesser men then Berbick, and while he's redeemed himself enough, still isn't looking that impressive against average contenders.. Povetkin, Adamek and Haye are fighting has beens or tomato cans. For the record, I am not claiming anything outrageous, such as Berbick being the domianant unfied champ in this era, but to think that he wouldn't do as good as people like Chagaev, Maskaev, Valuev, Peter or the sort is ridiculous to say the least..

I do think Berbick gets a bad rap, as does Peter..at least compared to beloved "cult" fighters like Mercer, Morrison, and Tua who have been revised by many internet fans as all time great contenders despite not accomplishing nearly as much and being just as inconsistent.

Prime Berbick, the one who beat Ali, Page, Tate, went 15 with Holmes, does just fine with everyone around today. Not saying he wins every fight, but he's more than competitive with most.

He'd probably have a similar career trajectory to the one he had in the 80's, i.e. beating a number of top contenders and probably holding an alphabet title for a short period of time, but losing at least a couple to a couple of fighters that he probably should have beaten. But he'd certainly be a mainstay in the rankings for quite some time, methinks.

We are talkiong about todays heavys, not the heavys of five years ago. Haye, Povetkin, Adamek are all a few notches above the likes of Maskaev, Peter and Valuev (i know the risk of mentioning Valuev here, the SNV fan-train could easily hijack this thread).

I don't think any of those men have proven much to be placed head over heels above the likes of the second group mentioned... Okay, so Sugar Nikolay Valuev sucks, but he was ancient and inactive just as virtually all the other heavy's that Haye has faced thus far, and in truth I don't think Haye looked much more impressive against Valuev than a 46 year old Holyfield... Haye has been campaigning as a heavyweight for over two years now and has beaten Monte Barret, John Ruiz, SNV, and is now going to fight Audley Harrison... Trevor Berbick faced prime contenders who were better than that bunch, and no matter how you try to spin or repackage the facts, its the reality... Povetkin has been fighting pro for 5 years, is 31 years old and has what? 19 fights? The last 4 or 5 men that he's entered the ring with were a joke... Chambers may very well be his best scalp, and frankly I don't even know who'd win, should they ever rematch.. Adamek is 34 years old and just like Haye, is feasting on the shells of old fighters... Sure, Berbick beat the corpse of Muhammad Ali, but the difference is that his career wasn't defined by it, the way that these guy's careers are......

To conclude, I really haven't seen anything to warrant the claim that Haye, Povetkin and Adamek are " a few notches above" Maskaev, Chagaev, Valuev or Peter... If anything some of those guys are about equal, while others are only marginally apart... I'll be the first to admit that I'm wrong, should one of them ever prove me to be so, but for right now, those guys haven't shown dick....

I overrate the current division? :rofl You have me confused with somebody else, Foreman. Although they all lose to Lennox, they'd probably all give Tyson hell...

So who would be the one to drop kick Berbick in a parking lot? He damn well better be jumping off the hood of an Oldsmobile too. No exceptions.

    I nominate:

    "The Psycho Killer"

    Tomasz "Bad Asz" Adamek

    Outboxed imo.
Berbick would make it competetive though

I think he would be a top 10 guy at best, below the sort of Peter even. He was a pretty crappy fighter when considered at the elite level. Hell, when ST Gordon is beating you in a heavyweight contest, time to reconsider your weight class, or even your career choice.

Berbick would be a decent top 10 guiy like he was in the 80s. Not much to choose between eras...
