Yep, not one of his best.

He only won eleven rounds and toyed with Del Valle for most of the fight.

Two judges had Del Valle winning ONE round and the other gave him ZERO rounds.

But seriously, all things considered, Roy is probably underrated on here.

He was fat and out of shape. If he stayed in good shape Duran would have stayed at WW, not kept going further and further north.

Barkley would get beaten by Golovkin or Alvarez, so the point still stands.

    You vastly underrate him.

How was the Del Valle fight a very bad performance exactly?

Did you even watch the fight?

He didn’t look very bad at all. He won nearly every round and he threw some great right hands to the body.

People just like to highlight this fight because he was knocked down. But unless you actually watched the fight, you won’t realise that although Del Valle landed a great left hand shot, the reason that Roy fell down fast, face first, is because his back foot slipped beneath him on the wet canvas. Most people just try and bring this fight up to criticise Roy, without having watched it.

If you watched the fight, there was lots of water dripping off of Roy’s shorts. And on two separate occasions, the referee had to temporarily halt the fight, in order to wipe the wet canvas with a ringside towel. Roy also lost his footing briefly before the knockdown. Now if you go and watch the replay, the best camera angle to look at is the overhead one. Roy takes the shot, moves his weight onto his back (right) foot, and it slips, bringing him crashing down. It’s all there on camera for everyone to see. There’s a good chance that Roy wouldn’t have gone down, had he not have slipped. If you don’t think so, then go and watch the fight. Apart from the knockdown, he was in full control of the fight.

The guy who is claiming that Roy would have lost to Beterbiev and Canelo by knockout, based upon the Del Valle knockdown, is absolutely clueless.

    That’s just casual fan logic.

Canelo is levels above Del Valle, but Del Valle was a 6ft southpaw with a bigger reach.

Canelo could never have replicated that same shot.

Although Canelo is on another level, he’d have found it extremely hard against Roy, due to how he personally would have matched up to Roy stylistically. Look at their styles.

A small, skilled counterpuncher, against a highly unorthodox fighter like Roy, who had incredible hand speed and reflexes. Roy would have been a significant favourite. As great as Canelo is, he’s always had issue with boxers who had fast hands and feet.

Regarding Griffin, as you know, he was a very good technical fighter, who had 2 great, close fights with Toney. Yes, he caused Roy issues. But he didn’t expose Roy. Exposed him how? No, I don’t think that Roy would have blown Canelo out. But I just think that Roy would have been far too elusive for him.

    Exactly.

Most people haven’t even watched the fight.

They only assume that he looked very bad due to the knockdown.

I don't think Canelo does that well against ATG's. I mean he clearly got beat by GGG who certainly very good but not even top 5 all time at middle. Was also clearly beaten by Floyd who is an ATG. Also can't rate him at Super Middle as yes he cleared the division but most people understand that it's the weakest it's been for some time. The fight at Liight Heavy against Krusher is also a bad measuring stick as Krusher was clearly shot. the fact Ginger didn't stay at Light Heavy is rather telling in itself as Bivol and Beterbiev would clearly be a far bigger threat.

Canelo didn't fight a prime GGG.

    This statement is factually incorrect.

It has the same degree of veracity as two plus two equals five.

To say that Moscow is the capital of the USA would be factually incorrect, but no more incorrect than saying that Duran was fat and out of shape against Barkley.

Other statements in that same category:

    Tyson Fury is Chinese.
Synchronized swimming has more thrills than boxing.
Donald Trump has never told a lie.
Scotland is located South of England
    etc

Duran weighed the same against Barkley as he did against Hagler, was in excellent shape, and defeated a big middleweight nine years his junior, who was coming off a win against Hearns.

It was one of the greatest achievements of any Middleweight fighter ever.

Your opening sentence is one of the seven most stupid sentences ever posted in this forum.

And there have been a few doozies on here over the years.

Maybe you should make an appointment with an eye specialist.

He didn`t land much in the first three rounds and was caught flush and dropped, sloppy as hell.

He fought a version of GGG that wa far better than a 38 year old Duran.

Maybe you should check into a psychiatric ward.

Duran had already grown as much as he could by 1980. Anything beyond that is "fat".

He was dropped in the eighth round due to two factors.

    1) He momentarily lost focus because he was so bored at how easy the fight was.

    2) He stepped on a wet spot on the canvas.

To summarize, he scored a near shout out against a totally overmatched opponent who won one round at most, but probably none.

Speaking of synchronized swimming, maybe you should look into it.

You might have better luck making sense of what you are seeing in a different sport.
