Solid for a contender or new titlist.
Shameful for the long reigning Champ.

So I just tell myself...he's still coming up

Agreed Wlad took a long time to mature as a fighter and get good enough to compete at the top level. He wasn't as protected as Wilder, which is why Wlad lost 3 times during that time. But fact is it took him a very long time to reach true world class.

Wlad was never the smartest fighter, fought stupidly against Puritty and then repeated the same mistake vs Brewer, gassing even faster. He needed Steward to do his thinking for him, to help him develop a style that would work.

For a guy with 39 fights, his best win is Arreola. Wilder's title defenses are a joke, very weak. Perhaps the worst I've ever seen from anyone in the WBC, WBA, or IBF who has at least 5 defenses.

Ortiz is a name, and a big step up but check the guys age.

How is Wilder protected though since he became champ? He never refused an offer to fight anybody. The Povetkin fight was forced on him 6 months after he picked up the belt. Not his fault Povetkin delayed and then popped up dirty.

Wlad was steered away from anybody with a pulse for the first 40 fights / 9 years of his career and he still lost. Purrity was a journeyman and Sanders was a non ranked cherry pick.

His own manager admitted to this.

After that artilce was written Wlad was creamed by ' carefully matched ' Corrie Sanders.

Povetkin, Parker, Joshua, Wlad, Takam, Pulev, Miller are just some of the names that he could have fought but didn't. There are others.

I guess he's finally stepping it up and fighting Ortiz, who may be past his sell-by date. We shoudl be thankful for small mercies.

Aaaannnnddd ... Dino continues with his Wladimir obsession on a thread about Wilder. :drooling:

I wish that Wlad would just mail Dino a semen-infused snotrag so that this roach can finally get closure. :wanker

When Wilder beats Ortiz , they'll be nothing between his WBC run and Vitali's post Peter WBC run. Nothing whatsoever.
In fact Wilder can go on to be greater than Vitali if he beats Joshua.

Very solid for a contender, absolute dog**** for a champ with a 3 year reign.

Who has Wilder fought prior to this Ortiz fight, it's clear he's been protected. All his voluntary fights where against Haymon fighters, Ortiz fight included the only exception was Washington who was a late replacement and is just plain awful as the Miller fight proved.

Wlad was definitely managed carefully but that was because he lost to Puritty. He'd already been exposed and so they were cautious to match him too aggressively. Though they did match him with Byrd in 2000 while in his 4th year as a pro. Byrd may have been stylistically good for Wlad but I still rank Byrd higher than anyone Wilder has fought so far.

Protected against who? Who should he have fought and who offered to fight him? If it was ok for Wlad to fight cupcakes , why isn't it ok for Wilder? Not saying Wilder should be facing bums btw.
Wlad at the same stage wasn't ready for an old past prime Lewis , but Wilder is calling out prime AJ left right and center.

You act like Wilder is the only guy who has a bum titre run. Look at
Brooks - JUju Dan , Frank Gavin , Bizier
Stevenson- Suchotsky , 168 Bika , Karpancy , Williams Jr , Fonfara again
Kovalev- Caperallo , Agnew ,Mohamadei , Pascal again after he got out boxed by Yulneir Gonzalez. He won back a belt off bummy Shabransky and is about to defend it against another bum - Igor something or other.
There's title holders with bum defenses everywhere.

Wlad was a contender when he was fed cupcakes lol, he wasn't a reigning champion claiming he was the best, having voluntary after voluntary.

After Wlad finally won a belt he had a couple of easy first defences which most champions do, but then he rematched Brewster a guy who had beat him, he then unified vs Ibraghimov, taking a pay cut to do so. Wilder after 3 years as champion has yet to even try to unify, he just talks about it but does nothing to do so, in fact where Wlad took a pay cut to do it, Wilder is asking others to do so to unify with him lol.

Wlad doesn't have the best resume due to a weak era, but his opposition at the same stage during his career shits all over Wilders.

Yeah all those fighters are obviously protected too but that doesn't mean Wilder gets a pass for doing the same. Wlad too was protected to some degree as I said before but it's not comparable to Wilder.
