I just really think its silly that people think Hughes has a chance to GnP St. Pierre. Its really as simple as going to watch their two previous fights, and you will see that GSP is superior on the ground too. Again, and I know you already know this, but I gotta repeat it, the fact that Hughes armbarred GSP is in no way an indication or a tell that he is better on the ground. St. Pierre making that mistake honestly would be the equivalent of Floyd Mayweather keeping his foot inside, and circling to the right on a So. Paw and getting KO'd by a straight left. A stupid, green, "why the hell would a pro do that" mistake....which WILL NEVER BE REPEATED. But you can also look at the way St. Pierre MANHANDLED every one of the top wrestlers in the division Trigg, Sherk, Kos and Hughes. The guy is a stud and top of the food chain on the ground as well as the feet.
I just think it's ******ed that a guy who has already beaten gsp has no chance and considering gsp got knocked the **** out by matt serra as well he isn't as good as you think. I do think gsp is a big favourite but to say hughes has no chance is foolish.
Hughes has a chance to beat Rampage as well....this is MMA, thats the problem. :deal But ignoring the 'circus act endings' that happen all too often, Hughes should not beat GSP, much like he should not beat Rampage. Look at it this way....if a basketball game was determined by one slam dunk, then North Carolina might have a shot at beating the Boston Celtics.....but looking at it objectively, there is no logical reasoning to bet on them. :deal
Well if you knew what you where taking about you might make abit more sense, gsp has lost to hughes before at the moment they are 1-1. Gsp also took a beating from bj until he gassed, and he got knocked the **** out by matt serra, so why has hughes got no chance:roll:
Read my above posts. GSP lost to Hughes by making a REAL dumb mistake. A mistake that really, nobody at that level should ever make. Hughes on the other hand, was losing the round and was pretty much handed that victory, because he did nothing that, anyone else at that level, wouldn't have done if their opponent made that mistake. It's not like he set GSP up for that armbar, or even saw it coming, it literally fell into his lap. If GSP doesn't overcommit on that kimura attempt.....Hughes doesn't get the armbar and eventually loses. Simple as that. Now, who doesn't know what their talking about? atsch

when St. Pierre lost to Hughes the first time he was only 22 or 23 at that time.He was green and made a mistake. Of course Hughes has great subs but when Serra beat GSP...(it was a fluke punch) but Serra had a decent punchers chance..Hughes doesn't have much of a punchers chance since he has never KO'd anybody on his feet...the truth is he thought he caught GSP away from hard training away from training but GSP was training already in case of an injury....so he is more than ready....unless Hughes can get a sneaky sub in he will have a tough time....but he does have a chance.....i guess.

Getting careless on the ground with Hughes Other than those two fights, he hasn't beaten everyone else....he has utterly destroyed and dominated the competition, with the sole exception of BJ Penn. He destroyed Sherk He literally made Trigg look like he had absolutely no fighting or wrestling experience at all. Owned Kos at his own game Embarrassed one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time in Hughes With the exception of GSP beating himself, who could you rationalize favoring over him. Actually name one welterweight that does one thing better then him. Remember, BJ is a lightweight now. You can't do it because he is that well rounded that he is better then the best of the best in the world at his weight in every aspect of the game. :deal
In regards to the view people such as yourself hold him to he is very overated, he is probably te best 170lbs but his beating from bj, ko loss to serra and loss to hughes makes him fr from invincable.

Well as bj gave him a beating in the first round and then gassed it was an obvious win for gsp but bj didn't have a mark on him and gsp looked beat up.
This is really getting out of hand, Hughes has probably the best all around ground game at 170 in the world, has won 9 title fights, and has already PROVEN he can beat GSP. GSP didnt get caught with "a fluke shot" he got caught by like 25 "fluke" shots, then gave up. GSP didn't "make an amateur mistake" by getting countered into an armbar in the first fight, he went for that Kimura over and over until Hughes finally picked the right time to counter it. He also had to get put on his back to be in that position in the first place. Hughes has been into the championship rounds 3 times and won all 3 times, rounds 4 and 5 are foreign territory to GSP, how will he react if it gets there? GSP beat the living **** out of Hughes and he could very well do it again, hes a great fighter and I think very highly of him, but to count out the far and away most decorated fighter in history at 170 who has already beaten GSP once is borderline insane.
