Making it at 185 is just going to let Hughes have even more of a strength advantage. The second comment doesn't even deserve a response, the fighters he has finished speaks for themselves.
Good luck with that tournament man. I hope you kick ass. 6 weeks without being tapped until locking up with a purple belt is really good. It shows how much you're improving. I wish you good luck man, I hope you do real good. I did some grappling matches a few times to start off some shows of some underground MMA events down here. My first one was in 2004 against this Jiu-jitsu guy named Rico and he came in wearing a GI. I was a little upset at first because I knew he was gonna use it. He ended up subbing me with a choke using his GI. I was 19 back then so I was really bitter about it My 2nd grappling match was against some Karate dude transitioning to MMA so I subbed him quickly with a RNC. It was a confidence builder for me because I got to experience a win so it was cool. My third match was against a judo guy with good Jiu-jitsu. We ended up having a draw because they didn't count sweeps and guard passes as points. If they had he would have won. But I was happy with it because I didn't get tapped and we rolled for 6 mins with 2 mins a round. So I was happy with my improvement back then even though I was still horrible. I'm not even that good now, but I'm much better than I was back then. Alot of my new tricks I actually learn from submissions 101 from youtube. Those guys are awesome. My thing is to be atleast descent in every area because for MMA. I wanna debut at 135 and I think I can do some real damage in that weight class. There's good fighters there but nobody that makes me wanna think twice about being there. Before I wanted to fight at 155. I would have got my little ass stomped on Those guys are just to big.
Are you kidding me dude?:blood Did you see his wins over Aguiar, Newton(twice) Castillo, Sakurai, Trigg(twice) Riggs, GSP, Gracie, & Penn? I don't think so. Those are Hughes victories that he stopped or subbed within the distance. atsch "Lay on top of his opponents for 3 rounds" my ass And you would really "fancy" Renzo at 185? Did you see how much bigger and stronger Hughes looked at 175 when he fought Royce? Imagine 185 dude. Renzo has a better chance at 170 even though he's most likely gonna lose there too.
Thanks man I plan on doing well bringing home the Championship is my ultimate goal but I just wanna go out and test myself of course. I love my training partners but I must say I wanna see how I do outside of that school. Its nice to read about your grappling match experiences. Those GI guys have alot of tricks up there sleeve (no pun intended) , the draw one I find odd though why wouldnt they count sweeps and passes for points or was it one of those old school type deals where anything besides a stoppage is a draw ? Ive only had 2 grappling bouts myself. They occured at a local tournament last year around Thanksgiving time. The first bout I one with an arm in Guillotine choke in about 30 secounds maybe less. 2nd bout I lost on points the fella passed my guard with like a minute left (4 minute fights) and held north south long enough to rack up needed points. I escaped with like 10 secounds left and just went after a desperation Guillotine as I had no other way to win at that point. I took home the 3rd place award which was pretty cool.
3rd is good man. 3rd is really good. You experienced that kind of competition and probably gonna do good on Jan 16th. Plus you said they took place Thanksgiving time last year? So that was already a long while, you're probably gonna be even better now. Win that ****. The reason they scored it a draw is because the guys that they had scoring it were striking experts that knew NOTHING about grappling. Even I was shocked they had it a draw. I was mainly on my back for the majority of the match, and in the next round he went for a throw which I had already been thrown by him in the 1st round so I knew to block it the 2nd time and got kinda took a single leg from behind. He ended up scrambling and I was on my back again. The closest thing I came to was an armbar from the bottom because he left his forearm on my stomach, which he ended up blocking. When they called it a draw I found it strange but I aknowledged him as the winner by raising his arm. I'm not the kind of person to take a robbery and smile. He clearly outclassed me. I was just happy that didn't get subbed.
