Foreman has recanted the drug story, then reasserted it. He still claims it is true. It may be true. It would have been very easy for the trainer (Saddler) to have done. No one here knows whether it happened or not- period.
Actually the drug story came out a little bit after the fight. But immediately after the fight he claimed that the ropes were too loose, the canvas was too soft and the count was too fast. Possibly with that gaining no traction he came out with the being drugged story. But regardless, even if someone showed him the results of that fight, it wouldn't have mattered. He would have done the same. How do I know this? When Gil Clancy was training him for the Jimmy Young fight Gil had him working almost solely on skipping rope and speed bag. Gil said he has the punch, he will always have the punch, but now we need to work on stamina. Well George didn't like this approach and brought in a sub-trainer who had him pounding away at the heavy bag. Gil said every day those muscles kept getting bigger and bigger and if anyone watched the Young fight they could see George learned absolutely nothing from the Ali thumping.
