Let's put a 1 day rest period on "* would beat Silva" threads. GSP has had off days; not that bad, but still, lets all collect ourselves here. Not saying you're wrong, I was one of the few who gave him a chance when this came up post Hendo-Silva.
This for me is more the P4P discussion then if the fought. I know GSP can handle a powerhouse like Alves but I don't know if he could handle Sonnen or Marquardt.
Marquardt really aint that good, he has no stamina & is pretty much all standup. Sonnen always gives 110% & is unpredictable but GSP is a very talented wrestler. Silva? The man is overated; has good striking but his grappling is far from the best in MMA.
I think he would too, but I don't think he could take Anderson down at will as easily as Sonnen. Mabye he would though, I would love to see it.
Flip side.....If Matt ****ing Serra can get to GSP once, Anderson has at least a 50/50 shot at doing it.
Exactly. Didnt Serra KO him on his feet? Silva has pretty good striking. Silva and GSP are the only MMA fighters that i usually tune in for. However I did not want to pass up Alexander who dissapointed by the way....
I was gonna bring out this argument as well. Everyone has bad nights and I think people are jumping the gun a bit calling him overrated. We don't know really where Silva is at until he fights again. Then again I'm not surprised at this reaction. Fight fans are fickle and I'm sure the same thing happened when GSP lost to Serra. As for the match up, well it would certainly be close. GSP has the style to beat Silva. Whether or not he could is another matter. I think a similar thing that happened to Chael would happen to GSP. Failure to finish the fight early comes back and bites him in the arse.
i always believed on this idea even before the sonnen fight... but it will still be a toss-up between the 2 because silva will always have the advantage when it comes to striking.
Although not great at positioning, GSP may even be better than Sonnen at takedowns. And thats a huge props to GSP since Chael is world class(He is that good). If they were the same size, how can you go against St. Pierre, he has better sub defense, more explosive, and has a good enough stand up to keep Silva at bay. GSPs chin is also very underrated, besides that temple shot from Serra, hes been hit numerous times and have never been shaky. I really cant see Silva winning just for the fact that he aint subbing GSP (the most safety first fighter in MMA). Also GSP with Jackson, they are very tactical in fights. I bet my life JAckson doesnt send GSP in the 5th round way ahead in the fight and tell him to keep fighting aggressively.
If ****in Takase can submit Anderson, GSP has at least a 50 50 shot at doing it. If ****in Sonnen can knockdown silva, Belfort has at least a 50 50 shot at doing it.. mma don't work like that in my eyes...
Serra landing 1 big punch does not mean he has a 50-50 chance. GSP is a strategic man. I'm pretty sure he would not look to engage very much and go for the takedowns.
GSP takes it for me p4p i dont even think its close hes got the most underrated striking in mma, no 1 can stop his TD's, his top control and guard passing is phenomenal he makes it look easy on great bjj players! and his GnP is some of the best p4p! i really think he could beat silva if he moved up i always have, he wouldn't stand to much maybe double jabs and shoot and control! i do think silva is an amazing fighter i just think GSP is the mayweather of mma!
GSP has had to artifically pack on muscle. Naturally he is a 185 pound who has made a deicison to bulk to 192. GSP is pretty much always on fight weight.
