BINGO !. Jim Corbett it is...About 20 years ago, while at work I stumbled on an old house in Bayside, L.I. It had a sign saying that "This was the home of James J Corbett,Heavyweight Champion Of The World"..The street is now called Corbett Pl....Reading that sign I thought of,Fitz, Jeffries, Sharkey, and of course John L Sullivan...It was an eery feeling for me,
conjuring up this house that holds such memories of the past....b.b.

    Thanks!

It is tempting But I have been on sport trivia sites for years and some people really get mad when I answer all the questions, all the time. I have to control myself so this doesn't happen on this one.

Cultural Medallion sites in Queens include James J. Corbett's residence at 221-04 Corbett Road.

JD thanks for this clip...As I posted before, when I first saw the sign and the house, I, a lover of boxing history had the feeling that Corbett, old Fitz, The Boilermaker Jeffries, and the Great John L, were inside the house, and I was in a time warp...Funny feeling, seeing this house by
myself...I was so carried away, I left my car there and took a horse and carriage home !Thanks again JD...

Yes Rocky,I saw your clip of Weymouth, Nova Scotia, and home of the
great Sam Langford...What a fighter he was..Short and powerful he
tackled everyone, everywhere...The closest modern fighter to THAM,was Jimmy Bivins, who I found out is still living, and who I saw fight once, Melio
Bettina in old MSG...I sent him an E-Mail yesterday...Langford and Bivins
both had long arms, and tackled everyone, although nthere is but one
    Sam Langford...Thanks,b.b.
