I often go against the commentators when they don't give a fighter credit I start seeing more value in what they do. For the record I am a terrible judge of fights as well when I watch live. Also coming into a fight with an expectation of what one fighter will do or is good at can cloud your judgement.
I had trout totally dominating before the knockdown.canelo came into it a bit after that but not enough.trout still won some close rounds after the knockdown aswell.all a bit fishy imo.p.s open scoring is wank
There is no right way to score a professional boxing match, its completely subjective and comes down to what each individual likes. Theoretically boxing is 'the art of to hit and not get hit' so going by this, it all comes down to percentages, whoever throws less and lands more automatically should win but it doesn't really work like that. some people like that others like power, 10 clean pita pater shots that don't do damage vs 1 clean power shot that does do damage, its what you like more and different people like different things. Same goes for aggression, does the guy who's being more aggressive but not neccessarilly effective get the points or does the guy not being aggressive but is being effective get the points ? or what about ring generalship, who's controlling the pace, who's fighting their fight and making the opponent change his approach ? There's so many variables that come into play its impossible to say for sure what the right criteria for scoring is.
I don't understand how Christodolou had that scorecard, baffling. Personally I was watching with friends and we kind of split who we wanted to win, the sound was on but we weren't really listening to it. I was on the side of Alvarez, so perhaps I was a little bias... I had it: Alvarez - Trout 10-9 9-10 9-10 9-10 9-10 10-9 10-8 9-10 10-9 10-9 10-9 9-10 114-113 Alvarez, the knockdown being decisive. One or two of the closer ones I gave to Alvarez, one or two Trout. Very close fight which could have gone either way to me
I agree with the OP. I watched the match this morning so I wasn't jaded from alcohol or anything but I had Trout winning by around 4 rounds. In a nutshell I thought that Trout was the the busier fighter landing more shots throughout with Alvarez doing very little in many of the rounds other than fight in spurts now and again. Judging by the way everyone, including Trout, feels that Alvarez won I need to go to Boots and get a new prescription on my glasses.
I had something similar, stayed up to watch that last week, after many drinks i scored it 6-6 each so had donaire winning courtesy of the KD, next morning i re-watched it and scored it 8-4 to rigo. Dont sweat it, **** happens. Just watch it again and try not to be swayed by the commentators. :good
I had it 114-113 Trout, alot of the rounds were close and came down to a preference of meaningful punches against dominating 2 minutes of each round. 118-109 116-111 were completely crazy scores
He was a real pain in the arse last night mate, any exchanges between the fighters and it was only walsh that was doing the good work apparently. No respect for him after last night.
Telling people to watch it with the sound off is the shittest advice ever. That's just assuming all boxing fans are numptys who can't think for themselves. I had Trout winning by a point, got no problem of someone had Canelo a round or two up. With this fight I thought if you look at it overall, as a 12 round fight Canelo landed the much more effective punches and was perhaps the superior fighter overall. However, as fights are scored on round by round basis, Trout picked up a lot of rounds due to Canelo simply not being active enough. Doesn't matter if Trout was only landing jabs, the lack of activity coming back from Canelo worked against thr Mexican.
Have just watched it and didn't score it But overall canelo landed the far better shots, scored a kd, generally looked in control to me Not to mention he knew he'd win on points after round 8 so he cruised home Trouts attack was largely ineffective even though he pressed it for large parts of the fight. Canelo chose to simply stand and slip shots for a minute at a time and managed it easily. Tight enough fight but canelo the winner for me and he'd have dug deeper in the last four if he hadn't have known he'd won on the cards already
Trouts face going back to his corner between rounds said it all, he was clearly thinking "**** I can't touch this guy" Canelo controlled that fight, he gave some rounds up to be sure but he won, and even Trout knew it
that's the word right there, he was in control, it kinda reminds me of people who thought Alfonso Gomez gave him trouble, when he was clearly just being patient and waiting for his opening yes he was a little TOO patient at times last night and gave up some rounds, but he won the fight tremendous poise for a 22 year old
Donaire and Trout both admitted they lost. You know you're not scoring it correctly when even they can see they lost.
