You said you think Floyd would win Prime for Prime, but didn't answer whether or not how much the decline in Oscar's skills, reflexes, power and speed effected his performance against a prime Floyd. But lets move on shall we. What do you think the best gameplan is for a fighter to bring into the ring with them against Floyd?
It doesnt matter what plan they bring into the ring with them. If they can't adjust to his adjustments and have a plan B and C they won't win. You can't do the same thing to him for 12 rounds and win.
Alot of people say presssure is the key to beat PBF but pressure alone won't do it. The best style to beat PBF would be first a long southpaw with a good jab, decent pop, good chin, good speed, good counetrpuncher, good ring IQ, good defense, good movement, good workrate, good stamina. As you can see that Fighter doesn't currently exists. Zab had the formula but was to mentally weak and melted down. His speed, counter-punching and southpaw stance was giving PBF problems early on. Most won't agree with me but a boxer like Cory Spinks would give PBF fits due to his reach southpaw stance good jab, speed, defense, footwork, counter-punching. But what Cory lacks is pop, workrate and stamina. If he had a higher workrate he could really give PBF hell but he's simply not active enough. Now the ideal gameplan which we all would like to know is still a mystery. He's dealt with pressure fighters and won. He's dealt with swarmers and won. He's dealt with boxer punchers and won. He's delt with sluggers and won. About the only style we haven't seen him in against is a defensive couter-puncher like himself. A prime Pea would be ideal because as a southpaw he could work behind his excellent jab has enough handspeed to counter and beat PBF to the punch has a high ring IQ and his defense was sick as well.
What about Floyds straight right/counter right/lead right? It is the best, one of the best I've ever seen. That is the perfect medicine for a south paw, and could definitely deter a South Paw from jabbing him. I have had this argument about Winky / floyd, which I am convinced Winky would beat him and convincingly. But that is partially due to size and just that Winky has world class skills, is very composed, patient is a 'win first, entertain second' type fighter much like floyd. But I concede that Floyd's straight right would be the one weapon that would trouble him.
Unca Roger admitted that PBF doesn't do well against southpaws they make him uncomfortable in the ring but they do that to most orthodox fighters. His straight right would be a great weapon no doubt and he landed it flush on Zab in their fight. Against Winky it wouldn't work well IMO. Winky's high guard would be a problem and he would still get off his jab and keep PBF at bay. Not to mention I don't think PBF could hurt Winky who has a very underrated chin. I picked Winky back in the day as well but Winky was way to big for PBF. His size, jab and high guard would be just to much for PBF to overcome.
Floyd should never ever get in the ring with somebody as big and skilled as Winky. Winky is a natural JMW.
