Having just read the damage that Fitz did to Ruhlin, koing him for over 12 minutes ,and leaving him in a trance -like state overnight, with hemorraghes from his nose and ears' a doctor staying with him in case he "slipped away" coupled with Fitz's two demolitions of Sharkey, I have to accept that Jeffries chin must be considered proven at the very top level. Fitz nearly killed Ruhlin wrecked Sharkey , kod Corbett with a single body shot, but could not drop Jeffries once in two fights. No more equivocations, no more reservations,Jeffries punch resistance is up there with Chuvalo, and McCall's.

Doubtful ... the old time fighters had inferior chins and stamina in addition to the skill sets of tough man contestants ....

Chuvalo usually went into strictly defensive mode when punished severely, covering up and merely trying to survive. Why compare Jeffries with him?

The comparison extends only so far as their ability to stay upright.

Great durability against the hardest hitting lightheavies of all-time.

That was one of Seamus better answers... He was being totally patronizing to pre 20's fighters.. just a tad...

Light-heavies with proven power to flatten larger men my friend :bbb

And we all know size isn't everything. Are Michael Dokes, Jess Willard, Abe Simon and Primo Carnera harder hitters than 185 lb Rocky Marciano? 188 lb Jack Dempsey? 185-190 lb Curtis Sheppard?

    You get my point. :smoke

Do I hear an Ed Dunkhorst?

The one of those guys in the first list who knew how to punch, Dokes, probably does hit harder. Unfortunately, he had to battle real-sized, physical monsters his whole career and not other light heavies so he had to rely on skill and speed, lest he be decapitated as he was by Ruddock.

Wellpast his best against Ruddock. Maybe Coetzee would be a better example?

or maybe the fact he was a fat cokehead had summat to do with it?

This has always been my position , that Jeffries is unproven against big heavyweights, but after reading about the damage that Fitz did to Gus Ruhlin , I have to say ,since Jeffries never hit the deck against Fitz , his chin is top drawer.

Yes, I will admit he could take a punch and kept focused through the storm. There is no denying or eluding the fact that Fitz hit like a mother****er.

This is pretty much my stance on it.

Doesn't mean I couldn't envision him being stopped against many a bigger guy though. I wouldn't pick every guy his own size/bigger to stop him either.
