I can't see it being a toe-to-toe war. Cotto would be playing right into Margo's hands then and giving Margo his best chance of winning.

Ultimately Cotto is going to dictate what type of fight this is and i see him using his brain and boxing more on the backfoot (he will not be running like some people might claim it to be. He will just be fighting in a way that is best to beat a none stop on coming brawler). At times i think Cotto will stand his ground, plant his feet and let some vicious shots go. He will have to do this to land his trademark body punches as its hard to throw body punches effectively on the retreat and he will have to land body punches to slow Margo down. (If Cotto can't slow down Margo with shots to the body then i see Margo winning this no matter what style Cotto chooses to fight). But by and large Cotto will probably not enter into to many toe-to-toe exchanges.

Despite this i still think it will be a great fight. Not a Gatti/Ward type of fight like some people are predicting but still entertaining nevertheless.

Im going for a Cotto UD by the way. I know you never asked, but still...

If he doesn't fight smart, he's lost.

    Cotto 5'7 reach 67''
    Margarito 5'11 reach 73''

Thank you. I've been screaming this for most of the morons on the board. I can't believe that someone who has the nerve to have a Cotto avatar is saying this.

Hey, had Cotto not fought smart (and a helpful low blow) he would have lost to Zab Judah. When he started using his jab, he kept Judah at bay. When he tried to trade is when he was caught up the middle.

But hey, go ahead and slug it out for these dolts who probably have pot bellies and would't know how to punch if someone slapped them and their wives in the face.

God some of you on here irritate me to no end..

What the hell are you talking about?? Taylor pretty much was winning the fight with combos and flurries while absorbing body shots. He didn't trade.

The reason Thomas Hearns and Hagler turned out to be the war it was was because Hearns got a leg massage prior and felt flat coming into the ring. He felt he had to get Hagler out there. It cost him his hand as he broke it after the first round. Who knows how that fight would have went had he started out boxing first. Let me scroll up to see your other example..

Holyfield and Bowe and Ali and Frazier? Dude what are you 12 and just throwing up fights you've heard of or seen highlights on youtube?? In each of those fights it was a styel matchup, sure there were points were each were engaging but it wasn't the entire fight.

So basically what you're saying is eschew all skills like movement, feints, defense and just stand in the ring and go toe to toe because you don't understand anything else right??

Yeah tell the quarterback to go long every play and that every NBA player should either launch a THREE or go for a dunk.

This is the problem with boxing right now, too many NOT knowledgeable fans of ths sport but with message boards they think they have a voice and obviously when they speak they don't know schit right??

Don't get confused with the phrase "fighting smart". Doesn't mean running away. Is moving, jabing, attacking from the angles, comming in and out, not staying in the ropes, using speed and counterpunching, etc....... AND BANGING TO THE BODY WHENEVER HE HAS A CHANCE.

I know size isn't everything in regards to boxing but that is some size difference for two guys who a naturally similar weights.

However i don't see the height being to much of a problem. To me, Margo appears to fight small quite often. Size-wise this fight will be against the norm anyway as usually the smaller fighter comes forward and tries to get inside whilst the taller one fights more smartly and of the back foot. The roles will be reversed here with the taller Margo coming forward. Should be interesting.

Mosley did hit Cotto with a couple of nice punches. But a experience boxer like Mosley knows if the other boxer is hurt or not. He was also feeling Cotto's power wich you can't feel from your seats.
Margarito is known for his great output. I really want to see how many punches he can throw when Cotto is punching back. I do recognize Tony has the power to stop Cotto and any other fighter at 147lbs. But I don't think that is going to happen. I think Cotto is going to do another face rearrangement.

Cotto is a good body puncher and Margarito punches too darn wide. This is going to be easy work for Cotto.

The only way Margarito could win is if he fights smart which I've NEVER seen him do. By that I mean us his jab, double and tripple it up (which he rarely does). Keep Cotto on the outside of his punches and make it a boxing match until late.

Unfortunately for Margarito when he's behind he tends to LUNGE forward and with his frame it's a VERY easy target for Cotto to the body. Also Cotto has a good stiff jab that could match Margarito's.

I see Cotto in a stoppage provided he doesn't try to trade which is the only way i see Margarito winning..

Thats a very good point that i didn't give much thought to and havn't heard many other people mention.

Everyone is expecting Margo to come forward and draw Cotto to fighting inside which could be bad for the wider punching Margo. I don't think Margo is better technically than Cotto but if he can fight tall (which he rarely does) and keep Cotto at the end of his jab and fight occasionally on the inside he could stand a good chance of winning this way.

I think Cotto knows and his uncle acknowledged that a fight with Margarito is a dangerous venture. With this, he knows that this fight will play a huge role on his career. If he loses, it will be a big setback and he not only loses his title but also his P4P status, undefeated record, and a shot at PBF if he comes back. So, I believe that these things as well as Margo's overconfidence and first big payday will lead Cotto to boxing smart and be on the victorious end.

Noways Margo will fight from the outside and win---he's gonna try to smother Cotto-and use rough house tactics to derail Cotto's main stratergy..:smoke :smoke
