I may be in the minority but I have Groves beating DeGale

Groves isn't perfect but if he sticks with straight punches, especially with the right hand he showed last week against that southpaw (not in DeGale's league, I know) I see Groves beating him with lots of counter attacks. I think DeGale looks sloppy and throws too many slaps aswell as leaving his arms out there too long after throwing his punches... which I know he does to invite his opponent in to try counter them like he was trying to do last nighht night against that dude with the uppercut. But if you know this you can avoid it... which I certainly think Groves can do.

 

a brave post mate.i think degale is putting more pressure on himself with the style of his call outs lately but i cant honestly see groves beating him with his adam booth style.groves moved too much to his right last time out and was pretty open throught.i think there will b a few degale doubters out there after last night as degale didnt look great and got caught square and flush a few times,but he'l up his game against groves who i tnink needs to drop booth asap.

 

De gale looked sloppy last night but then again he had no fear of the other guy really hitting him back I cant see Groves beating the De gale that put a beating on Paul smith, but there both still improving so who knows what might happen.

 

groves is too loose and easy to hit for degale , groves relies on reflexes and has a defence like hayes problem is hes not miles quicker than his oponents so he cant get away with it

 

I see DeGale as too much for Groves at this stage. But Groves is no mug, he'll certainly be live underdog and if he loses I hope certain people don't start seeing at as the end for him far to many people get obsessed over a loss on a record.

 

i like groves as much as most people do as he seems like quite a normal guy. but i echo most peoples opinion on him unfortunately - stupid defensive style and he gets hit way too much, by boxers with far less speed or skill than degale. can't see degale having enough power to put groves down but will probably be able to flurry him to referee stoppage as coined by the great 46 and 0 joe calzaghe.

i worry about how groves would be able to come back from a loss against degale after all the smack talk. in fact, for either of them the loser will have a lot of humble pie to eat and will take a massive blow to their confidence. hard to come back from.

 

I fancy Groves strongly in this match up. Her has faced the tougher trests and more importantly he has DeGale number. Calling him the ugly kid makes DeGale look stupid as Groves is actually a fairly good looking kid. In fact Groves has clearly got under DeGale's skin. Groves has been thrown in deep and had real fights DeGale has not.

 

what do you mean "has his number" he beat him a couple times in the am's thats a differant game all together , groves is just to naive for this fight

 

I favour chunky but make no mistake, George can hit so he has a chance, a loss is not the end of the world and like David Haye proved it can be the making of some fighters it really can..

 

They have both faced good fighters DeGale has the best name on his record where as Groves has a couple of good ones in Anderson and Adamu..

 

Degale wins a lot easier than people think imho

I would also argue that Anderson is better than Smith.

 

Arnie, if you were training Groves, would you think it is a hopeless case beating Degale? How would you approach it if you were his trainer?

 

I think DeGale will win but I wouldn't be shocked if Groves pulled the upset.

 

Groves's aggression will be the end of him in this fight and his poor defence will see him get caught and probably put down a few times before being stopped on his feet
