Martinez looked like a superstar against williams whenever williams over extended his punches when he fought martinez squared up and balanced (middle rounds) he was very successful. pavlik always fights like that so I don't think pavlik will have that much trouble with martinez's movement.. only thing I think will bother pavlik is his rust...
Williams himself admitted that there was a lot of things he did wrong in preparation and during the fight... its neither here nor there.... he won the fight and has a new opponent as does martinez...
I think Sergio's getting stopped late , will be interesting to see how Kelly deals with the hand speed early on , i think if Pavlik can impose his will on Martinez early i think he could stop him early , if Martinez starts well and hurts Pavlik you just never know . I dont see this fight as a pick em if im honest as Williams aint Pavlik , he's a JrMW and Pavlik definatley aint that , i have Kelly going in strong favourite on just size and style alone , but im not counting out Martinez out all together i dont see how you could TBH .
what i mean is he's getting a lot of hype for making a close fight out of it against williams. he's a shifty guy and has an awkward style about him but when a bigger, stronger guy keeps in control and walks him down and keeps coming and throwing they are successful against him. like you said.
Goosen's light bulb went off immediately and preemptively killed Pavlik/Williams at the end of the fight.
oh.. yeah i agree... I could see him trying to sneak inside to hit pavlik after missing a left and pavlik following up with a right like he usually does.... if martinez can take away pavliks right then he might have some problems
Martinez by a knockout if Kelly doesn't cancel ...this is the wrong fight for Pavlik ,fighting a southpaw ,Kelly will never figure out Martinez left hand until the fight is stop ....thats my prediction ..Martinez by STOPPAGE 9th round 2:07
yeah that's the gameplan against kelly. problem is, as a lefty, he is naturally more susceptible to a good straight right. but also, he circles the wrong way if you want to get away from kelly's right hand. i think it was maybe the seventh or eight round :huh of the cintron fight, harold was laughin at cintron. "i don't know what he's doing out there!! just take one step and hit him with the right!!" cintron just sat there swiveling in a circle as sergio circled around him and darted in and out.
I gotta go with Martinez in this fight. Too much speed, too much slickness. He's not going to just stand there and eat 1,2 combos all night long. You can't count out Pavlik though. He is the champ and he can hit like a mule.
I like Pavlik in this one. While he certainly should have won, Cintron gave Martinez some problems when he actually threw punches, and the right hand was able to connect pretty regularly. Pavlik fights similar to Cintron, only he's bigger, hits harder and has a much higher workrate. Unless Martinez can time the jab, I think he'll be in for a long night.
I expect Martinez to be worn down by Pavlik's methodical pressure. Pavlik's long jab will be effective in this fight IMO and as the rounds go by, his right hand will get closer and closer to finding the mark. Mix in his solid body attack, superior size/strength, and punching power and I think the fight will come to an end prior the the championship rounds. The first few rounds might be Martinez's though - he'll probably have an easier time timing Kelly than the other way around early on.
Let me beg to differ. I've watched the fight a couple of times. The things he was doing wrong are fairly obvious. What was his coach's advise? "You gotta man up on dem punches Paul". WTF? If he can't see these things until he watches film later and reads it on the inter net Paul is just plain xxxxxx! I've dropped him to 60/40 over Cintron. If Cintron has early success I think he wins. Otherwise Paul does his usual and takes what little heart Cintron brought to the ring on the night.
