No. Joe Louis has the stylistic advantages to beat Ron Lyle, and he is, in my opinion, in another class as well. While I suppose it is possible that Ron Lyle could knock Joe Louis down at some point, I would be surprised if that happened.

 

Whatever happens it’s a very dangerous fight for Louis. Don’t forget Lyle is big, strong and had a decent chin. Also he hit very hard. I’m not going to debate the winner but most heavy weights post Louis’s own reign are a threat to him. He certainly wouldn’t go undefeated if he fought ever champion after him and top contenders too.

 

It's time to acknowledge the truth of Joe Louis. That a lot of fighters throughout HW history and LHW history and CW history and future SHW history and future BW history are going to give him a dangerous fight before he forces their teeth into their shirikodama and leaves them soundlessly weeping in a puddle of most of the types of fluids a human body can produce, wondering how they went from almost winning to nearly dying so quickly.

 

The only reason that Ron Lyle has been accorded as the second coming of Christ is that he managed to floor an ego depleted post Zaire George Foreman on Jan 24 1976. If Jerry Quarry and Jimmy Young can defeat a Ron Lyle who was a decent boxer, a hard punching Joe Louis would destroy Lyle.

 

Don't be ridiculous. Lyle would be about as dangerous to Louis as was the Baer brothers or Tony Galento.

 

I’m not being ridiculous. I’m trying to be realistic. Joe Louis reigned in an era that didn’t stretch him. In terms of talent pool around at that time. Also WW2 extended his reign. This has given him a god like status. He is most definitely a ATG. Arguably THE ATG. But actually there are plentiful fighters that would( again I’m not going to go into who would win) but they certainly would be dangerous/difficult for Louis. Lyle being one of them.

Me too, he made me laugh more than anyone has in here i reckon. I loved rattling his cage too which was rather easy. Unfortunately he couldn't control the way he spoke to others (usually per Foreman hahaha) and couldn't stay viable for very long.

Slightly dangerous fight, but Louis should obviously be favored to win. Scenario 1: Louis gets through some rocky early rounds in exciting back and forth exchanges before he breaks Lyle down with his crisp combinations winning via KO within 8-10 rounds. Louis may or may not have to get off the floor to do it, but he gets it done. Scenario 2: Louis plays it safe and boxes Lyle's head off at mid range behind the jab, parrying and punishing the more crude shots of Lyle before winning a rather obvious decision. Louis is simply too polished, smart, and well rounded to give Lyle the opportunity to make this an ugly brawl and even if he did, Louis could still win. He's just on another level overall.

Ron Lyle doesn’t see Round 3 … big punches don’t matter when your head is rattling all over your neck from being peppered by piston like jabs from the opening bell because I don’t see Lyle having the defense to keep Louis off him for 30 seconds.

 

If Ron Lyle could not beat Jerry Quarry or Jimmy Young, what makes some posters think that he could defeat a prime Joe Louis? So Lyle dropped an ego deflated post Zaire George Foreman, Lyle did not come away from that fight with a win, don't believe in moral victories just plain old fashioned victories. Moral victories are not reflected in boxing records results, just the result of the victory itself.

 

Some posters are simply in love with big punchers … I love ‘em too, but I also live in the real world, and in the real world Ron Lyle has nothing for Joe Louis.
