Does that mean you consider the Rampage v Machida result fair?

Round 1: BJ advances position, takes Fitchs back, goes for choke. Fitch reverses.

Round 2: BJ advances position, takes Fitchs back, goes for choke. Fitch reverses.

Round 3: BJ comes out and goes for Knee trying to hurt Fitch, Fitch takes him down and pulverizes him for 4.5 minutes. :deal

BJ doesn't play it safe. He takes risks and chances in the octogan. That is why Dana White will always give him shots before other fighters.

If BJ doesn't go for that knee in the 3rd, who knows how that round would've played out. That was his biggest mistake in the entire fight.

bj thought he lost because he is cut from the pride cloth. he is about having a real fight and winning via damage, like diaz, fedor, shogun etc this is why he tought he lost. upon reflection he saw later how it could be scored a close fight.

in situations like this, you do think a fight being scored in its entirety can help.

The 10 point system is a joke!

10:10 rounds in MMAThe biggest misconception associated with the 10 point must system, particularly amongst Mixed Martial Arts fans, is that you cannot have a 10:10 round. 10:10 rounds are infrequent within MMA but are allowed within the rules.

Reasons for this misconception stem largely from the phrasing of the brief rules description at the start of UFC broadcasts "The round winner gets 10 points, with his opponent receiving 9 or less".

At no point does this description state that there must be a round winner, however this is often assumed by the viewer as there is no mention of 10:10 as an option.

Additionally, 10:10 rounds rarely dictate the outcome of a bout even when they do occur, as they are usually awarded by one judge at a time. One notable exception where a 10:10 round did dictate the fight result is the 2003 bout between Ian Freeman and Vernon White. The fight was scored 30-27, 28-29, 29-29 with the final scorecard including a 10:10 round.[1]

Obviously you scored rd 2 to Penn where as I scored it to Fitch, either way there is no way anyone can score this fight for BJ, none at all.

I'm not a B.J. fan at all. I respect his talent and skill, which is obviously enormous, but given everything, I'll say I'm not a fan, and I'm about as big a Jon Fitch fan as you can find.

Watching it the first time, I thought Fitch won 2-1 (Being rounds 2 and 3, with 3 either being 10-9 or a close 10-8).

Upon re-watching the fight I can completely see a draw, and it's merit, but it's either just that, or Fitch won. 28-28, 29-28, or 29-27 (if you scored the 3rd round a 10-8), and it only would have been worse for Penn had it been more then 3 rounds. In all likelihood he would have been stopped late 4th or 5th.

If you don't give fitch a 10-8 round BJ wins the fight.

BJ is a big name in the UFC, if he goes it hurts the brand.

If that wasnt a 10-8 rd then I dont really know what you would have to do to get a 10-8 rd tbh.

    You are right...

The fight was a clear draw for me 100%.

    BJ 1st + 2nd and Fitch big 3rd.

    The only alternative to score the fight would be this;

    1) BJ 10 - 9
    2) 10 - 10
    3) Fitch 10 - 8

    Fitch wins....

I thought the 2nd was for BJ though. Not a draw or for Fitch.

We all see things other ways though... :deal

Jesus chrsit, why not just say that you're going to shamelessly nuthug Penn at the top of the post so we can skip the rest? You're giving Penn a ton of credit for a huge ****ing mistake that landed him on his back getting pounded on for the whole third round? Tank Abbot used to "not play it safe" and "take chances" too; is he supposed to be lauded for it? Penn ****ed up and Fitch capitalized on it in a HUGE way, much more decisively than Penn did when he got the advantage and lost back control twice.

I had the fight a draw (10-9 10-9 8-10) but the second round was close and Fitch landed most of the good shots on the feet in that fight. I can see how that would have tipped the balance in that second round to him.
