I dunno whether he had to fight him, maybe to recover some of the losses the network incurred on Guerrero. But both guys hold SWW belts, so 154 is the only weight that makes sense. Especially since the Ring/lineal belt will be at stake. That shouldn't be contested at a CW, right?

Exactly. Mayweather was clearly lying by suggesting that the catchweight was Canelo's idea. The sooner the *****s admit that their idol is a hyprocrit and is lying the better. I won't be holding my breath though. They'd rather live in denial I guess.

The difference is that Canelo is not lying about what happened. Canelo wasn't the one that said "catch weights are meaningless". Canelo wasn't the one who wouldn't fight unless there was a catchweight. The CATCHweather extravaganza is due to Mayweather, by saying one thing then doing the opposite, then lying about who needed the catchweight. FMJ is not practicing what he preaches. Canelo agreed to Mayweather's catchweight because that was the only way Mayweather would fight.

 

Arum is on record saying he was never keen on making the fight.

 

No doubt, Canelo is not responsible for this one. But lineage wise, his belt was won at a CW he didn't even honor. I'm just pointing out that the fight is steeped in catchweightedness all around

Well I think Arum got discouraged at a point and didn't think it was a realistic possibility. First FMJ pretty much accused Pac of being on roids, and that's not really a great way to start a negotiations for a fight. In general promoters try to make the fight, but there's only so much they can do if both fighters don't want to fight. I don't think he believed that Mayweather wanted the fight, if I remember correctly, Pacquiao agreed to the 14 day cut off, but it still wasn't enough. Obviously there is some friction between Mayweather's camp and Arum, and I'm not defending Arum. But wouldn't Arum want to make the fight? it would have been the biggest fight by far at the time (2008-2010). This is really a feeble attempt to make it look like I'm a die hard Pacquiao fan or something and I'm not.

 

So which is it? He obviously wanted it or he was a flip flopping liar as usual?
