I agree, he may have been able to get up physically. Although you never know. Foreman - Moorer looked like a joke a KO punch and if you didn't know more about Moorer or boxing, you'd think he was just laying there and taking the count.
I thought he visibly came out to make a statement that he was a more exciting fighter...he was throwing lead rights and combinations from the beginning. This as a far cry from the recent Wlad fights where he won't even throw a right hand for the first 3 rounds. But Thompson stood his ground which was surprising. He caught Wlad with some very clean shots that made the fight competitive in the beginning. It was impressive to see a guy in there who wasn't afraid to mix it up a little with Wlad. Wlad's footwork was a bit clumsy, that much is true. He seemed a little torn between standing and trading, and using his usual footwork to evade punches. He did clinch a bit but he's been a bit better with that, although I'd like to see him use his inside game...Wlad used to be a decent mid/close range fighter, kinda the way Povetkin is right now. I think Wlad tired a bit around round 5 and took a bit of time to recoup. But once he got comfortable he adjusted a bit back to his previous long-range style which was fitting at that time in handling Thompson, who seemed drained from the body and head attack. I thought Wlad did good work to the body with that hook and uppercut, which he NEVER does. It wasn't Wlad's best performance but it was better than his fights with Byrd, Brewster, and Iggy, where Wlad just picked them apart methodically from the outside in fairly boring fashion.
You'll say anything to keep from giving Wladimir credit right? :yep "It wasn't that Wlad was so good but that Thompson was so bad" You're so predictable. :deal BTW, Thompson gives any top 10 HW problems with that style & jab.
Wlad is a world class heavyweight but you have to agree with these points. I still say his number one weakness is when his opponent applies pressure. Thompson was useless after the 1st round.
Ur a ****n moran. Wlad threw left hooks, right staights, Uppercuts and body in the fight. He clinched about 3 times around. One clinch every minute for a man of his size is not that much. I mean christ Ruiz holds 15 times a round.
John Ruiz? Look, everyone was creaming over Wlad when he was winning impressively. Now they are criticizing him for not fighting to his true potential. It's a fair criticism IMO. He is still the best HW on the planet right now, but he is fighting within himself and holding back. He has gone safety-first and most people are just frustrated because he really doesn't need to. Not against the likes of Thompson.
Well you'll say anything to keep from criticising WALDO so it works both ways, sack-swinger. As I keep saying, you love the man not the sport :deal Yes Thompson gives any top 10 heavyweight problems with that style and jab...because the top 10 heavies are all **** at the moment, and well you know it :yep
But the Ibragimov and Thompson fights were both great performances, how can WALD be on the decline :huh Hater.
Come on FW, both fights can be distinguished, especially the TT fight. There is no question Wlad is culpable in the Sultan fight, but not on an island himself. Both were awkward ass southpaws. It is similar to blaming Lennox for the Akinwande debacle or the Mavrovic shocker...**** happens in boxing with awkward opponents. Wlad will go back to decapitating folks faster when he fights more traditional boxers.
