It would solve allot of problems, if they can make the count of 10..? then the fight goes on, and the corner can only stopped the fight. I would not of stopped Khan vs Garcia ether. Amir Khan at the time of his stoppage was in better shape and more co-ordinated then he was after the first knock-down.
There is no need to go out of your way just to annoy people, if you have a difference of opinion fair enough but there are ways top put your point across without acting like a dick.
If your not then i apologize :good, But TBH Craney you haven't wound me up i don't mind you but the last two weeks i've skipped your posts cos it looks like your at the wind up. I can't believe you for one minute seriously condone the stoppage last night mate.
Let me defend Ian John Lewis. Not for his terrible stoppages. Of course not! But for Klitschko vs Briggs. In a world title fight, I don't think you can blame a ref for allowing a 12 round beating. Rather, I think it's for the corner to pull their guy out.
Briggs was taking a dreadful beating, but he was still trying. He just doesn't have the tools he used to, which meant he was a sitting duck for Vitali's jab and right hand. I understand why IJL didn't stop that one, even though that was a great example of why you should consider where a fighter is in there career. There was no point that fight continuing after six rounds. Briggs' jab had been disarmed, he couldn't get his right hand off without it, his defence was never that great, and he was a stationary target because his footwork was so sloppy. So he had nothing left to give. His corner should have pulled him out, or the ringside physician.
He's not a very good ref, but we knew this before the fight. I don't think it was a very good stoppage because IJL wasn't sure enough, he bottled it, I think we all know why as well. It just stunk of a ref who has seen Enzo out of it badly a few times, Ovil threw a right hook a few times and missed narrowly, it was designed to take his head of. As I said yesterday to people, this isn't Carl Froch and it certainly isn't Steve Smoger. I just honestly think, the ref was worried for Enzo before the fight, and what transpired in the fight confirmed it. Enzo looked OK, but Ovil landed 2 punches when Enzo was up against the ropes and the head drooped away, the body sank and the mid drift wobbled. Enzo was still standing, but I just feel IJL could see a devastating punch coming. The ref is correct to have a look in Enzo's eyes if he needs to, the fighters health is what the ref is trying to look out for. One more punch (maybe even that right hook) could have been one to many. But IJL bottled it, you either stop the fight, or you don't. The referee needs to be decisive about a decision, this is rule 1, and he wasn't!! He knew it was a mistake, he felt it was a mistake, IMO I don't think it is such a bad stoppage, because it is Enzo, and if ever you would step in prematurely, it would be with Enzo. But the ref didnt know what he was doing, and was guilty as sin afterwards. But the ref was terrible, I still agree with that, he's supposed to be "firm but fair".....he was neither. This isn't the first time either.
:deal craney does troll but even when he aint he's annoying as ****. he gets too deep and ends up spraffing garbage and his attempts at humour is that of a 12 year olds. i think he's into all that conspiracy theory ****, thats why he gets all wacky! :nut i cant really slate him too much. when i first signed up on here i was drunk and put up daft threads all night. nxt day i couldnt log in caus i'd been banned. funny thing is the message said i was banned for nearly a year if i remember right but i managed to log back in under the same account a few weeks later. flaw in the system ha!
I tend to agree although i think Enzo was dropping head down to keep chin down but who knows. Have you bang on with rest though Craney :good.
I think he reacts before he thinks. Like the McCloskey situation, he jumped between them and looked lost. I think a lot of referees have the image of Michael Watson stuck in their heads. I mean, you would rather be known as the ref who stopped it early badly than the ref who failed to stop it tragically.
I did think that at the time,he was still in trouble but his head did seem to be clearing. Its a difficult situation to be in and most of the time the ref gets it right. Its easy to say it cases like the Khan one"let him go a bit longer"from the armchair. If he lets it go and Khan gets another big shot and needs the paramedics in the ring the ref looks a *******,he has to make a decision on it fast.
boxing refs are so close to the action that there cant be much excuses for bad decisions, especially as many bad decisions as the likes of ijl. for the good of the sport refs like him should be binned. i understand that refs have a hard job because they have the health of the fighters in their minds. how bad would they feel if they let a fighter get hit too much and end up cabaged or worse. but on the other hand if every ref was like ijl you wouldnt have the epic back and forth classics like castillo vs corrales or gatti vs ward 1 and 2. one of the most exiting dramatic things in boxing is seeing the heart and will of a fighter who has been hurt bad come back to dish out his own hurt. the fights where this happens more than once are always true classics weather its world level or domestic level. as ricky hatton said ''its not a tickling competition''
